Speaking to journalists immediately after casting his ballot, the former Speaker expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning the governorship election. He claimed that the electorate across the state is firmly behind his candidacy and is eager for a change in leadership.
“Without manipulation, I will win this election. The people of Osun are behind me, and they are ready for change,” Salaam stated. “What we have been hearing from across the state shows that there is a strong desire for a new direction.”
However, Salaam voiced serious concerns regarding the integrity of the process, reporting that he had received credible information about widespread manipulation occurring in various parts of the state. He emphasized that his party is closely monitoring the situation while remaining optimistic that the true will of the people will eventually prevail.
“From the information I am getting across the state, there is widespread manipulation,” he added. “We are monitoring the situation, and we are hopeful that the will of the people will ultimately prevail.”
Addressing allegations of vote buying that have plagued the election, Salaam categorically denied that his party was involved in any such malpractice. He reiterated the ADC’s commitment to a free and fair democratic process where voters are not coerced.
“Our party is not involved in vote buying. We believe that the people should be allowed to freely choose the candidate they want,” he said. “We are here to participate in a democratic process, and we expect the votes of the people to count.”
Furthermore, the ADC candidate alleged that some of his party’s accredited agents were obstructed from carrying out their duties at several polling units.
