Obi’s legal representatives responded to accusations that NDC leadership extorted ₦10 million from House of Representatives aspirants by demanding a formal retraction, a public apology, a written commitment to cease defamatory remarks, and financial compensation. To support his argument, he referenced statements by Senator Seriake Dickson, who clarified that under party guidelines, only primary election winners should pay for nomination forms, while all other payments are illegitimate.

Okonkwo concluded his remarks by insisting that Obi must be investigated, stating, “The appropriate security agencies and anti-corruption agencies should immediately commence the investigation of this fraud by NDC and its leaders with a view to refunding the aspirants who were defrauded.”
