Key Developments and Roadmap A central achievement of the administration’s IP strategy was the Federal Executive Council’s approval of the National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy in November 2025, which serves as the country’s first comprehensive guide for managing and commercializing intellectual assets. Furthermore, WIPO has established its first office in Sub-Saharan Africa—and one of only seven globally—in Abuja, a move described by the Vice President as a significant milestone for Nigeria and the region.

To ensure the country maximizes the benefits of this partnership, Vice President Shettima has directed the Ministers of Justice, Industry, Trade and Investment, and Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy to develop a formal roadmap for engagement with WIPO.
