“Shock In APC As Lawmaker Dumps Party For NDC Ahead Of 2027 Battle”.

‎A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Gwale Constituency, Hon. Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mai Rigar Fata, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

‎Mai Rigar Fata, who represents Gwale Local Government Area — the constituency of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf — was officially welcomed into the NDC on Thursday by former Kano State Governor and party leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.

‎The defection signals a new political shift in Kano State as political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Speaking while receiving the defectors, Kwankwaso described the move as a major gain for the NDC, noting that it would strengthen the party’s grassroots support and political influence across Kano State.

‎The former governor also expressed optimism that the new entrants would help deepen the party’s structure and consolidate its growing support base.

‎Mai Rigar Fata was initially elected into the Kano State House of Assembly in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a party closely linked to the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Kwankwaso.

‎He later joined the APC alongside Governor Yusuf.

‎Defection Linked To APC Ticket Dispute

‎It was gathered that the lawmaker’s latest defection followed his failure to secure the APC ticket to contest for re-election into the Assembly.

‎His return to Kwankwaso’s political camp is expected to influence the political landscape in Gwale, regarded as one of the strategic local government areas in Kano State.

‎Also joining the NDC with him were former Gwale Local Government Vice Chairman, Hon. Kabiru Sani Auwal Obi, and Malam Mahadi Isa Umar.

‎The defections came shortly after a Federal High Court judgement nullified parts of the electoral guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a ruling many observers believe may encourage more politicians to switch parties.

‎Commenting on the judgement earlier, African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, predicted more defections from the APC.

‎“We believed at the time that that particular restriction was designed to stop politicians from leaving the ruling APC. Now that the court has ruled against it, we expect to see more defections from the party in the coming days,” Abdullahi stated.
