“Peter Obi Loyalists Ready For Any Battle, Not Afraid Of Jonathan – Umeh”.

A chieftain of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Victor Umeh, has stated that supporters of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are not threatened by speculations suggesting former President Goodluck Jonathan may contest the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Umeh, Jonathan’s alleged ambition would neither reduce Obi’s growing support base nor affect his chances in the next general election.

The senator made the remarks during an appearance on Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme.

Responding to claims that Jonathan’s possible return to active politics could unsettle Obi’s camp, Umeh dismissed the suggestion, insisting that every prominent politician commands his own loyal supporters.

He stressed that Obi’s popularity and political movement have continued to expand since the 2023 election.

“We are not worried at all. Why should we be afraid? There is no reason for fear,” he said.

He added, “Every political figure has followers and supporters. What Peter Obi currently has is enough to make a strong impact again in 2027 and even win the election.”

Umeh maintained that the former Anambra State governor had built a formidable political structure that would not be shaken by the emergence of another aspirant.

The senator further revealed that Obi had consulted Jonathan several times regarding his political plans before rumours surfaced about the former president’s possible return to the race.

According to him, Jonathan never disclosed any intention of contesting the presidency during those discussions.

“Obi met with him several times, not just once, and at no point did Jonathan say he wanted to run for president,” Umeh stated.

He, however, acknowledged that Jonathan remained constitutionally qualified to contest if he so desired.

Despite that, Umeh insisted Obi’s political influence and support were still increasing.

“His supporters are not reducing; they are multiplying,” he added.

Umeh also defended Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

According to him, a committed and visionary leader would not require more than four years to reposition the country and place it on the path of development.

“Four years is enough for a serious-minded leader to reset Nigeria, provide proper direction and place the country on the path of genuine progress and development,” he said.

The senator noted that Nigerians were yearning for leaders who would fulfil their promises and rebuild public trust in governance.

“People want a government that keeps to its word. When leaders promise something, Nigerians want to see them deliver,” he added.

Umeh also described Obi as one of the most prudent and financially disciplined politicians he had encountered.

He said Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State demonstrated his ability to manage public funds responsibly.

According to him, Obi remained “the most prudent and fiscally disciplined politician” he had worked with.

Defending Obi’s tenure as governor, Umeh said, “His best was good enough for the period he served.”

He added that Obi’s reputation for accountability and financial discipline continued to strengthen public confidence in his leadership ability.

Speaking on the lingering crisis in the Labour Party, Umeh alleged that certain individuals within the party were collaborating with forces linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the opposition.

He said the internal challenges within the Labour Pa

Hands Off Our Police! Senate Leader Issues Explosive Warning To Shield State Force From Governors And Cabals!.

Published

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has emphasized that any proposed state police services must possess guaranteed financial independence to protect them from potential manipulation by governors, political actors, criminal elements, and other powerful interests. Bamidele, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, proposed that funding for these services should be placed on a first-line charge as part of the ongoing constitutional amendment process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Key aspects of Bamidele’s proposal and the National Assembly’s approach include:

  • Addressing Stakeholder Concerns: Bamidele acknowledged that fears regarding the potential abuse of state police by influential individuals are legitimate and well-founded, noting that these concerns are partially rooted in Nigeria’s experience with regional police control during the First Republic.

  • Multi-layered Safeguards: The National Assembly is working to develop a system of checks and safeguards designed to ensure professional discipline, institutional independence, and financial autonomy.

  • Judiciary-Style Funding: To prevent police chiefs from being subject to the “whims and caprices” of state governors, Bamidele suggested a funding model similar to that of the judiciary, which is protected under the Constitution and does not require routine executive approval.

  • Constitutional Guarantees: Bamidele stated that the 1999 Constitution should provide guaranteed funding sources for both State Commissioners of Police and State Police Service Commissions.

  • Continued Engagement: The National Assembly intends to maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the constitutional amendment process required to establish state police services across the country.
