The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that his administration will continue and complete all ongoing infrastructural projects despite recent political developments in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Fubara gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection of the Airport Road Bypass project in Port Harcourt, where he disclosed that the project has reached about 65 per cent completion.

Naija News reports that the governor’s inspection came days after he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Rivers State, effectively ending his bid for re-election.

However, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Nwachukwu Nzeshi, Fubara maintained that the political situation would not distract his administration from governance responsibilities.

He said his government remains committed to delivering projects that will directly improve the lives of Rivers people, stressing that ongoing developments across the state will not be abandoned.

According to him, “I want to assure our people that, notwithstanding the situation of things, every good work we have started will continue, and by the grace of God, we will complete them. We are in high spirits. As we always say, Rivers First.”

The governor reiterated that the interest of the state remains his top priority, adding that governance and development efforts will continue without interruption.

Speaking on the Airport Road Bypass project, Fubara explained that it was designed as an alternative route for communities around the airport corridor.

He noted that the project became necessary due to recurring disputes and protests involving host communities and airport authorities, which often led to the blockage of the main airport road and disrupted economic activities.

Fubara said, “We’ve always had these issues where communities may want to express their dissatisfaction over airport-related matters, and in the process, they block the airport road. This affects economic activities. That is why we worked with the community to create this bypass.”

After inspecting the site with contractors, the governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, noting that the project is expected to be completed before October 2026.

He added that once completed, the bypass would improve traffic flow, ease movement around the airport axis, and reduce disruptions caused by conflicts along the main road.

Fubara reaffirmed that his administration will continue to prioritize infrastructure development, economic stability, and the welfare of Rivers residents.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed it will only accept candidates submitted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership faction headed by Senator David Mark for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Recognition and Nominations: INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna stated that the commission granted the Mark-led faction access to its nomination portal following a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed their authority. Consequently, this faction has successfully submitted candidates for 471 positions, including the presidency, 109 senatorial districts, and 360 House of Representatives constituencies.

  • Rejection of Rival Claims: The commission clarified that a rival faction led by Nafiu Gombe has no legal basis to submit candidates, noting that its appeal for recognition had failed.

  • Allegations of Forgery: The ADC has officially accused Nafiu Gombe of circulating forged documents that falsely claimed he had accessed INEC’s secure portal to upload candidates. The party is now calling for law enforcement to investigate and prosecute Gombe and his associates for attempting to mislead the public.

  • Appellate Court Ruling: While the Court of Appeal recently upheld a lower court ruling that restrained INEC from recognizing state congresses conducted by the Mark-led caretaker leadership, the ADC insists this decision does not impact the presidential or National Assembly nominations. The party maintains that those primaries remain valid and separate from the ongoing dispute over ward, local government, and state-level congresses.

  • INEC’s Stance: INEC indicated it will not take a formal position on the recent Court of Appeal judgment until it has obtained and thoroughly reviewed the Certified True Copy of the ruling, which is expected within 48 hours.
