Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, May 22, 2026, adjourned till June 23, 2026, the alleged ₦8.7 billion money laundering trial involving former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that the defendants are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 16-count charge bordering on conspiracy, concealment, disguising, and laundering of proceeds of unlawful activities allegedly totalling ₦8,713,923,759.49, in violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

At the resumed hearing on Friday, prosecution counsel, J.S. Okutepa (SAN), informed the court that the case was scheduled for continuation of trial but that the defence had filed a request for adjournment.

He told the court, “This matter is slated today for continuation of hearing. We were served with a letter addressed to the Deputy Chief Registrar of this court on the 20th of May, 2026 by the law firm of J.B. Daudu and Co. We wanted to oppose the application but we don’t want to stall the proceedings.”

Okutepa further urged the court to take note of previous adjournments already requested by the defence.

“We are not opposing but we want my lord to note that the defendants have applied for adjournment once, meaning they have four adjournments left,” he added.

In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik agreed with the prosecution that the absence of the lead defence counsel should not ordinarily delay proceedings, noting that the law firm had several other lawyers capable of handling the matter.

She stated, “I do concur with you, learned senior counsel, that the defence counsel indeed has so many lawyers in his chambers. There is no reason to stall proceedings today. Be that as it may, since they have room for five adjournments, we will grant them this one.”

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to June 23, 2026, for continuation of trial at the request of the defence team.

2027 Power Shift? INEC Clears Atiku And 470 ADC Candidates For Massive Electoral Battle!.

Published

on

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed it will only accept candidates submitted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership faction headed by Senator David Mark for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Recognition and Nominations: INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna stated that the commission granted the Mark-led faction access to its nomination portal following a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed their authority. Consequently, this faction has successfully submitted candidates for 471 positions, including the presidency, 109 senatorial districts, and 360 House of Representatives constituencies.

  • Rejection of Rival Claims: The commission clarified that a rival faction led by Nafiu Gombe has no legal basis to submit candidates, noting that its appeal for recognition had failed.

  • Allegations of Forgery: The ADC has officially accused Nafiu Gombe of circulating forged documents that falsely claimed he had accessed INEC’s secure portal to upload candidates. The party is now calling for law enforcement to investigate and prosecute Gombe and his associates for attempting to mislead the public.

  • Appellate Court Ruling: While the Court of Appeal recently upheld a lower court ruling that restrained INEC from recognizing state congresses conducted by the Mark-led caretaker leadership, the ADC insists this decision does not impact the presidential or National Assembly nominations. The party maintains that those primaries remain valid and separate from the ongoing dispute over ward, local government, and state-level congresses.

  • INEC’s Stance: INEC indicated it will not take a formal position on the recent Court of Appeal judgment until it has obtained and thoroughly reviewed the Certified True Copy of the ruling, which is expected within 48 hours.
