An Ilorin Magistrate Court in Kwara State has ordered the arrest of the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abbas Mohammed, after he failed to appear in court over an ongoing assault case involving two NSCDC officers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Chief Magistrate Adebayo Dupe issued the order on Wednesday after the commandant ignored earlier directives to appear before the court.

The court further directed the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to ensure the NSCDC boss is arrested and produced at the next hearing.

The case stems from an alleged assault on lawyer Aladodo Abdullateef Nurudeen by two NSCDC officers, identified as Ajayi Williams Gbolahan and Busari Babatunde.

Counsel to the complainant, Prof. D. A. Ariyo-Osu, told the court that the commandant repeatedly failed to comply with orders requiring him to appear personally and present the officers accused in the matter. He argued that this conduct amounted to disregard for judicial authority and urged the court to issue a warrant of arrest.

However, counsel representing the accused officers, A. Imam, informed the court that the NSCDC had written to the Kwara State Chief Judge requesting that the case be transferred, stating that the command had lost confidence in the court handling the matter.

After hearing both sides, Chief Magistrate Dupe ordered that Abbas Mohammed be arrested and brought before the court on June 10, 2026.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the Nigerian Bar Association against the two officers over the alleged attack on Barrister Nurudeen at the NSCDC office in Ilorin.

According to the complaint dated April 14, 2026, and signed by NBA Secretary Dauda Jimoh, the lawyer was allegedly assaulted on April 10 while visiting the NSCDC office on official duty. He was said to have been attacked after identifying himself and later dragged into a room where he was further beaten.

The NBA described the incident as an abuse of power, alleging that the commandant was present but failed to intervene, leaving the lawyer injured and humiliated. The complaint included charges of assault, intimidation, and conduct likely to cause harm under the Penal Code.

At an earlier hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the commandant had disobeyed a prior order to produce the officers. It subsequently requested arrest warrants for the officers and compelled appearance of the commandant.

The defence counsel, M. M. Kolo, apologised for the commandant’s absence, claiming one of the officers had gone missing after disciplinary action, while the second could not be properly identified by the corps.

The court has since granted the prosecution’s requests and adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
