Also among the new entrants are members of the Obidient Movement in Bayelsa State, along with other political supporters who defected into the party.

A businessman and politician, Diepreye Leghemo, also moved to the NDC alongside his followers, while a PDP women mobiliser, Esther Saiyo, joined with her support base.

The new members were officially received at the NDC state secretariat in Yenagoa on Wednesday by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas.

Cleopas urged them to first align with the ideology of the party’s leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, before pursuing personal political ambitions, stressing that the party is built on service-oriented governance.

He described the NDC as a platform for Nigerians seeking improved leadership and good governance, while warning that the political struggle ahead would be intense and demanding.

According to him, “Don’t be afraid! Political power is not given but contested… You must be convinced that you can take over.”

He also praised Okoya, describing him as disciplined, intelligent, and incorruptible, saying he represents the values the party stands for.

Okoya, in his response, said he left the PDP after resignation and consultations with other stakeholders, eventually choosing the NDC due to its ideology and vision ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the party’s focus on service delivery and governance reform aligned with his political beliefs.

Also speaking, Leghemo, a former House of Representatives aspirant for Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, pledged to support the NDC with resources and mobilisation to strengthen its structure in Bayelsa State.

He vowed to work with other members to make the party competitive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC, which recently received its registration certificate, has continued to attract politicians from different parties across the country.

Among its growing ranks are former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and members of the Obidient Movement, as well as former Kano State governor and ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
