Tiwa Savage Opens Up: “I Miss Running To Don Jazzy’s Room To Cry”.

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that she only fully understood the importance of a record label to an artist’s mental health after leaving Mavin Records.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The singer, who joined Mavin Records in 2012 and exited in 2019 before signing with Universal Music Group, said she still considers Mavin family despite her departure.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan, Tiwa Savage explained that the kind of support system an artist has within a label can significantly affect their emotional wellbeing.

She recalled her time at Mavin Records, saying she often turned to label boss Don Jazzy and other artistes during difficult moments, especially when facing online controversies.

According to her, she would sometimes break down emotionally and find comfort within the label environment, which felt like a family setting.

However, she noted that her experience with an international label has been different, as such personal support systems are not as available.

She stressed the need for artists to carefully consider whether a record label genuinely cares about their wellbeing or simply views them as business assets.

Tiwa Savage said, “Who you signed to is very important and I didn’t appreciate it until after I left Mavin. Whenever there’s a controversy online I’d run to Don Jazzy’s room, sit on the floor or bed with other Mavin acts and we would talk about it. I would cry if I had to cry and we would get through it.

“But being with a [foreign] label, they don’t really care about your personal stuff. So, I can’t really go to the Empire office and cry. I miss that part.”

Popular Nigerian TikTok creator, Peller, has reacted to the ongoing controversy surrounding the failed marriage of media personality Frank Edoho and his estranged wife, Sandra Edoho.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports indicate that during a live session online, Peller recalled advice Frank once gave him about his relationship with fellow TikTok personality, Jarvis.

According to him, the television host had cautioned him against oversharing his romantic life on social media.

Peller explained that Frank encouraged him to keep relationship matters private and avoid consistently posting about them online.

He also noted that Frank advised him to express love to his partner through actions without seeking public validation or attention.

However, Peller said he was surprised by the current situation involving Frank’s own marriage, given the counsel he had previously received from the veteran broadcaster.

He said, “Frank Edoho spoke about me and my baby’s relationship last year. He was telling me that I should do things for her but not put it out on social media and we should not put our relationship on the internet. He advised me on everything, see what is happening to him now,” he said.

Frank Edoho and his estranged wife, Sandra, have remained in the spotlight in recent weeks following revelations about the collapse of their marriage.

The situation gained further attention after Frank reportedly stated that he no longer believed in monogamy following the end of his marriage to Sandra in December 2022.

Following that remark, rumours emerged alleging that Sandra had been involved with a Nigerian singer during their marriage.

Sandra, however, denied the allegations and accused Frank of also being involved with other women while they were still married, naming individuals she claimed were linked to him.

Frank was previously married to broadcaster Katherine Obiang, with the union lasting seven years before ending in 2010. They share three children.

He later married Sandra in 2013, and the marriage produced two children born in 2014 and 2016.

Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has opened up about being stereotyped and restricted to certain roles early in her acting career due to her physical appearance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Ogunmola, during an interview with content creator Joseph Onaolapo, popularly known as Jay On-Air, said some producers attempted to typecast her in “side chick” roles.

According to her, she was often boxed in because of her complexion and body type, especially during a period when light-skinned actresses were more prominently favoured in the industry.

She said, “It was almost like they wanted to put me in a box. I am dark-skinned. There was a time when light-skinned people were reigning, and they told me I was very curvy and tried to limit me to ‘side chick’ roles. My journey has been crazy, but I have just kept at it.”

The actress also appreciated filmmaker Biodun Stephen for her mentorship, describing her as a key influence in her growth within the industry.

She noted, “Before you lead, serve. A lot of the things I learnt were from other producers. Biodun Stephen was my first teacher when it comes to movie production. Every time I am on set, I am watching her.”

Ogunmola further revealed that she ventured into business early in life, explaining that she preferred entrepreneurship over a conventional 9–5 job.

She said, “I just wanted my life to have meaning at that time. I am not somebody who likes to sit at home; I wanted to do something. I never wanted to do 9–5. I will not do 9–5, it’s not just me. Shoutout to people who do it, I applaud you. But for me, I am business-savvy like that.”

She emphasised the importance of financial discipline and having multiple sources of income, warning that success in the entertainment industry can be temporary.

According to her, “Life is in phases. You are popular today, you may not be tomorrow. What are you doing to put food on the table? You should be investing, positioning yourself from now. I have always been that kind of person, so I always have something else I am doing.”
