Tributes and condolence messages have poured across social media platforms following the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, who departed at the age of sixty-six after a battle with stage-four cancer. Reports noted that just days before his passing, his children, Kira and Haleemah, publicly shared his advanced stage-four cancer diagnosis and appealed for medical support.
Beyond Ogogo, several other prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry lost their lives to various forms of cancer:

Alexx Ekubo: The celebrated actor passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of forty at Evercare Hospital due to complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer, a condition he kept largely private. He was renowned for his roles in popular films such as Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and A Sunday Affair.

Stella Ikwuegbu: The veteran actress died on June 16, 2024, after a courageous fight against leg cancer. Her passing was announced by movie producer Stanley Nwoko, who honored her memorable portrayals of maternal and elderly characters in numerous productions.

Tom Njemanze: The veteran actor passed away in July 2025 at the age of seventy-five following a battle with prostate cancer, having previously released a video appealing to the public for financial assistance. He gained widespread recognition for his performances in classic titles like Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Pounds and Dollars, Brain Box, and Twin Brothers.

Karibi Fubara: The actor and producer passed away on December 15, 2021, after fighting kidney cancer. After discovering a large mid-stage tumor in 2020 and undergoing surgery to remove a significant portion of it, he succumbed to the illness about nineteen months later.

Sadiq Daba: The legendary broadcaster and actor passed away on March 3, 2021, after battling both leukemia and prostate cancer. Having received treatment locally and abroad through financial aid from well-wishers, he left an enduring legacy through his unforgettable work in the television series Cockcrow at Dawn and Kunle Afolayan’s October 1, which earned him the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor.

The content creator made the revelation during a TikTok livestream, explaining that he would rather masturbate to satisfy his sexual urges than cheat on his partner.
Peller recalled being surprised when Jarvis discovered what he was doing. According to him, she questioned why he had not approached her when he felt sexually aroused.
In response, Peller explained that a doctor had advised them to abstain from sexual intercourse temporarily, adding that he chose to respect both Jarvis and the medical advice.
He said, “For me to cheat, I will just soapy. My wife, Jarvis, caught me soapying in Barbados, and I was shocked. She said I didn’t come to her when I was horny, so I told her the doctor said we shouldn’t have s£x for the time being. I respected her and the doctor.”
The term “soapy” is Nigerian slang for masturbation, which involves sexually stimulating oneself for pleasure.
The revelation comes days after Peller and Jarvis announced that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple shared the pregnancy news on October 8 through a joint Instagram post featuring photographs from a maternity photoshoot, in which Jarvis showed off her baby bump.

Peller warmly welcomed Obi to the social media platform, predicting that more prominent Nigerians, including sitting presidents, would eventually join TikTok Live broadcasts.
Obi featured on The Emir Sirdam Show on TikTok as part of his early digital town hall engagements aimed at connecting with young voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Delighted by the presidential hopeful’s participation, Peller described Obi’s appearance as a welcome development. He also referred to the politician as a colleague, offered prayers for him and praised his decision to interact with users of the platform.
The streamer further predicted that TikTok would attract more influential figures in the coming days, including leaders at the highest levels of government.
Speaking during the live session, Peller said: “Peter Obi, God bless you, sir. We’re so happy to have you on our TikTok o. Peter Obi, our colleague, I love you, sir.”
He added: “Una go shock when everybody go come to TikTok. Even president go come.”

Reports emerged over the weekend alleging that the entertainer had divorced his wife.
According to the claims circulating online, Bakassi’s wife had moved to the United States to study nursing, while the actor remained in Nigeria, working and sending money to support her education for 15 years before she allegedly requested a divorce.
However, Bakassi has dismissed the reports as fake news, describing them as an attempt to disrespect him and his family.
In a video shared on his social media accounts, the comedian explained that the false claims had prompted numerous calls from friends, relatives and fans across the world seeking clarification about the state of his marriage.
The actor reassured his supporters that he and his wife were still together, stressing that his wife and children remained the most important people in his life.
He said, “While I was on set today filming a new movie with my colleagues, someone was busy on social media trying to disrespect me and my family. Someone went on social media and created an article with my name, my picture and that of my wife, alleging that we have gone our separate ways.
“And since then, friends, family and fans have been calling me from all over the world, calling my wife with this troubling news.
“Please, let me say to our friends, family and fans, my wife and I, we are still together. God forbid anything will ever happen to us. Everyone knows that my wife and family are very special to me; we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.”
