Drama In Enugu PDP As Wike-Backed Faction Approves Nnaji For Gov Race.

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, to participate in its Enugu State governorship primary ahead of the 2027 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nnaji was cleared during the faction’s governorship screening exercise held in Abuja on Thursday.

The screening panel was headed by former Kaduna State Governor and ex-PDP National Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi.

Businessman Samson Nnamani was also screened and cleared alongside Nnaji to contest in the forthcoming PDP governorship primary in Enugu State.

According to reports, Nnaji’s clearance comes amid allegations surrounding the authenticity of his degree and National Youth Service Corps certificates.

The former minister had resigned from office in October 2025 shortly after the controversy surfaced.

Group Condemns Clearance

Reacting to the development, a civil society group, Defence for Democracy, faulted the PDP faction for approving Nnaji’s candidacy.

In a statement issued by its National President, Emeka Nwachukwu, the organisation warned that the party could hurt its chances in the Enugu governorship election by clearing the former minister.

“The people of Enugu State deserve leaders whose records can withstand public scrutiny without fear or controversy,” the group stated.

It further argued that unresolved allegations surrounding public figures should not be ignored in the pursuit of political ambition.

“We therefore find it strange that people can move from controversy to ambition without addressing the questions hanging over their names,” the statement added.

The group called on the PDP national leadership to step into the matter, insisting that the allegations raised serious concerns about integrity and public confidence.

It also urged Nnaji to address the issues surrounding his certificates before continuing with his governorship aspiration.

The football utilized by Diego Maradona to score his controversial “Hand of God” goal against England during the 1986 World Cup has been auctioned in the United States for £2.5m.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Adidas Azteca ball brought in $3.3m via Heritage Auctions on Saturday, which fell short of the estimated £7.3m ($10m) projection from experts.

Key details of the historic item and match include:

  • The Match: The ball was in play for the entirety of Argentina’s 2-1 quarter-final victory against England at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

  • The Infamous Goal: Maradona scored both of Argentina’s goals, with his first involving him punching the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton—an infraction missed by the referee. Post-match, Maradona famously attributed it to “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God”.

  • Goal of the Century: Minutes later, the Argentina captain scored a legendary solo goal, weaving past five outfield players and rounding Shilton.

  • Prior Ownership: The ball was kept for over three decades by Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, who officiated the match. He initially sold it in 2022 for £1.74m ($2.37m), though a subsequent attempt to sell it in 2023 did not meet the reserve price.

  • Related Memorabilia: This auction follows the 2022 sale of Maradona’s Argentina shirt from the same match, which fetched £7.1m.
