“My Mandate Is Intact — Akpabio Fires Back At Oshiomhole In Fresh Political Clash”.

News reports that the Senate spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, issued the statement on Sunday on behalf of the Senate President. The amendment, which introduces experience requirements for senators seeking certain presiding and principal offices, has generated controversy within the chamber.
It will be recalled that Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, had called for Akpabio’s resignation over the revised rules, describing the development as a reflection of a “moral crisis” in the Senate. He also raised concerns about fairness, leadership ethics, and eligibility criteria.
However, Akpabio maintained that effective parliamentary leadership requires competence, institutional knowledge, and a deep understanding of legislative procedures.
He said, “The controversy surrounding the recent amendment to the Senate Standing Rules has generated more heat than light. Unfortunately, much of the public conversation has been framed around personalities rather than principles, and emotions rather than institutional logic.
“Yet the real issue before the Senate is neither about Senator Godswill Akpabio nor Senator Adams Oshiomhole.”
According to him, leadership in parliament goes beyond popularity, stressing that the office of the Senate President demands strong knowledge of constitutional interpretation, committee systems, negotiation processes, and intergovernmental relations.
“Parliamentary leadership is not merely ceremonial. The office of the Senate President is one of the most sensitive and technically demanding constitutional offices in Nigeria.
“It requires not only political popularity but also deep familiarity with parliamentary traditions, legislative procedures, negotiation dynamics, committee systems, constitutional interpretation, and intergovernmental relations. Experience matters,” he said.
Akpabio added that legislative bodies globally often review their rules to strengthen stability and institutional continuity, noting that such reforms should not be misinterpreted as attempts to exclude new members.
He also dismissed claims that he should resign on the basis that the amended rules could affect his eligibility if applied retrospectively.
“It is therefore inaccurate to reduce the issue to the suggestion that the amendment was crafted merely to ‘shrink competition’ or protect personal interests. Institutions do not become stronger by permanently freezing their rules in time,” he stated.
He further argued that laws and rules are generally not retroactive, meaning they do not affect decisions already made under previous frameworks.
“A law or rule takes effect from the point of enactment forward unless expressly stated otherwise. The amendment cannot logically invalidate a mandate that was legitimately acquired under previously existing rules,” he added.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it met the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct the omission of some of its candidates’ names from the electoral commission’s published list ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature (rtd.), disclosed this, confirming that the PDP submitted the necessary corrections before the October 24 deadline.
“Yes, we met the deadline since,” Bature told Vanguard.
He explained that the omissions affected governorship candidates in two states, as well as several candidates contesting seats in the State Houses of Assembly.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has alleged that some individuals are working to undermine his governorship ambition in Gombe State.
Pantami, who is the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state, vowed to publicly reveal the identities of those allegedly involved in the plot.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, the former minister said investigations had confirmed the allegations and claimed that considerable resources had been deployed to frustrate his political movement.
“Our investigations have now confirmed that these allegations are true. There is no amount of money or effort that has not been expended in an attempt to scuttle this movement,” he said.
His comments followed INEC’s omission of his name from the final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 election.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his candidacy, Pantami urged his supporters to remain committed to their cause and avoid being discouraged by criticism or the ongoing controversy.
He also expressed appreciation to residents who had organised prayer sessions in support of his governorship ambition, describing their dedication as a source of encouragement.
“You canvassed support, mobilised people, enlightened them and remained steadfast throughout this period. This is commendable, and this is a sign of true piety.
“Do not relent. Do not be angry or discouraged, because you are the ones who will be elevated, provided you remain steadfast in your belief in Allah,” he said.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been appointed to lead air travel arrangements for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Keyamo will serve as Director of the Directorate of Air Mobilisation under the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
The President also appointed the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, and Farouk Umar as Deputy Director I and Deputy Director II of the directorate, respectively.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued by Tunde Moshood, Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications.
Moshood explained that the directorate was established to oversee air transportation and logistics for the APC’s nationwide campaign activities.
According to him, the unit will coordinate air travel for designated officials and campaign staff, while arranging flights to support campaign events across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
He added that the directorate would work closely with other campaign departments to ensure effective coordination, efficient use of resources and compliance with aviation regulations and electoral laws.
The statement highlighted Keyamo’s experience as aviation minister, noting his efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation industry, improve its international standing and position the country as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
It added that his knowledge of the aviation sector would be valuable in managing the operational demands of the directorate and developing an effective framework for coordinating air transportation during the campaign.
“His familiarity with the operational demands of the aviation industry is expected to provide useful leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning,” the statement read.
Moshood further stated that the appointments of Kuku and Umar would strengthen the directorate by bringing additional leadership experience and technical expertise from the aviation sector.
“The appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Umar as Deputy Directors also brings aviation-sector leadership and technical experience into the directorate, strengthening its capacity to address the planning and coordination demands associated with nationwide campaign movements,” the statement added.

The individual recording the incident claims that the people involved are Regina and her mother, Rita Daniels. The person further alleges that Regina accused her mother of knowing about an alleged assault involving her brother and of collecting money from men at her expense.
However, the identities of the individuals in the footage and the allegations made in the clip have not been independently confirmed. The video is also unclear, making it difficult to establish the full context of the exchange.
Following the video’s circulation, some social media users criticised the woman believed to be Regina’s mother over the allegations about money and men, while others expressed concern over the alleged assault claims involving the actress and her brother.
