Manchester United sealed third place in the Premier League with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, a match that also saw Bruno Fernandes equal the league’s single-season assist record.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The hosts made a fast start when Luke Shaw struck inside five minutes to put United ahead early. They maintained their lead into the break, but the second half delivered a far more intense contest.

Nottingham Forest levelled the score in the 53rd minute through a header from Morato, but their joy was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Matheus Cunha restored United’s advantage after a VAR check for a possible handball involving Bryan Mbeumo. The goal was eventually allowed to stand after it was ruled the ball had come off Mbeumo’s hip.

Fernandes then played a decisive role, delivering a precise cross that Mbeumo converted in the 76th minute. The assist took Fernandes to 20 for the season, drawing him level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s Premier League record for most assists in a single campaign.

Forest kept pushing and reduced the deficit again through Morgan Gibbs-White with 12 minutes left, but United held on to secure all three points.

The match also carried an emotional moment as Casemiro received a standing ovation during what is believed to be his final appearance at Old Trafford.

The result ensures interim manager Michael Carrick’s side finishes third in the table, with one league game still remaining.

The Ogun State Government has announced that all patients admitted to the State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, following a recent chemical inhalation incident in several schools within the town have been discharged after receiving treatment and being certified medically fit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, disclosed this during an engagement with parents, guardians, and community members at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School on Saturday.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, was triggered by a gas leakage that affected more than 100 students and teachers across the local government area.

The affected schools include Our Lady’s Grammar School, Epe Garage; Anglican Girls Grammar School, Obalende; Titilayo Agbaje Comprehensive High School, Imosan; Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School, Imosan; St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Imosan; St. Anthony Grammar School, Esure; and Orphanage Primary School, Imosan.

Coker said the state government would deploy ambulance services to all wards in Ijebu-Ode to ensure rapid emergency response, adding that any patient requiring advanced treatment would be referred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

She confirmed that patients admitted in Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu-Ife hospitals following exposure to methane emissions had all been discharged in stable condition.

“Methane is a non-toxic gas, but it displaces oxygen in the body, which is essential for normal brain and bodily functions. While mild exposure may show no symptoms, moderate exposure can cause fatigue, rapid heartbeat, and breathing difficulties,” she explained.

She added that severe exposure could lead to convulsions or loss of consciousness, but noted that none of the patients experienced critical complications.

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and promptly report any unusual occurrences through the ministry’s emergency response channels.

She also disclosed that surveillance nurses, rapid response teams, and other health personnel had been deployed to the area, while the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had been notified.

“If you notice anything unusual, please alert us immediately so our teams can respond quickly. We have adequate ambulances, oxygen supply, and trained personnel across the state,” she said.

Coker further stated that toxicology tests would be conducted on some of the affected students to determine the level of exposure.

The Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, revealed that air quality monitoring devices had been installed around the affected schools, while environmental health officers would begin school inspections from Monday.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, also called for calm, assuring parents that the government remains committed to safeguarding students’ welfare.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed that security operatives, including the School Protection Squad, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, and other specialised teams, had been deployed to secure schools and surrounding communities.

He added that drones were also being used to monitor the affected areas to ensure continued safety of students and residents.

Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has alleged that the United States is showing interest in Nigeria’s natural resources.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Gumi made the claim in a post on his official Facebook page, where he described Western nations as “predatory powers.”

He wrote: “Nigeria needs to listen to this man. The West is a predator. US’s attention is now on Nigerian resources.

“Nobody cries for terrorists. But every patriotic citizen should cry for our sovereignty.

“Aerial bombing of stationary targets is no rocket science that demands foreign forces firing on our land.

“The Thucydides Trap is a political theory stating that when a rising power threatens to displace an established ruling power, the resulting structural stress makes the likelihood of armed conflict incredibly high.

“The first sign of the USA’s downfall is the absence of intellectuals but merchants of dollars and warmongers.”

In his remarks, Gumi warned against foreign military involvement in Nigeria, arguing that external intervention in local security matters undermines national sovereignty.

Ogun Senator Unveils Digital Governance Bill, Pushes For Modernised Nigerian Government.

Senator representing Ogun Central, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has called for urgent reforms of Nigeria’s legal and governance frameworks, insisting that they must be updated to reflect the realities of the global digital economy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Salisu, who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, made the remarks at the closing ceremony of a two-week digital skills training programme held in Abeokuta for youths across the senatorial district.

The training, organised in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, equipped about 350 participants with skills in cybersecurity, content creation, and other digital competencies.

Speaking at the event held at the JAMB office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the senator stressed that the future of employment and governance lies in technology adoption and digital literacy.

He noted that countries and individuals that fail to embrace ICT skills risk being left behind in the fast-evolving global economy.

According to him, “any citizen now that does not have ICT skills is impaired in what they can do,” adding that digital competence has become essential for survival in today’s world.

Salisu explained that participants underwent one week of virtual training and another week of practical, hands-on sessions, after which they were provided with laptops to support continued learning.

He emphasised that the programme was designed to ensure beneficiaries were properly trained before receiving equipment, rather than simply distributing devices.

The senator also spoke on the proposed National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill currently before the National Assembly, describing it as a key legislative priority and a potential legacy project for his tenure.

He noted that the bill seeks to modernise governance by creating a regulated framework for electronic transactions and ensuring that government institutions operate digitally.

Salisu further explained that the legislation would require ministries, departments, and agencies to adopt digital systems, while also introducing a national digital exchange platform to enable seamless data sharing across government institutions.

He expressed confidence that the bill would be passed and signed into law before the National Assembly proceeds on recess later in the year.

On electronic voting and Nigeria’s broader digital advancement, the senator said the country has already made notable progress in technology deployment, citing systems used by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which have attracted interest from other African countries.

He added that ongoing broadband expansion projects by the federal government would further strengthen digital infrastructure and pave the way for wider adoption of electronic governance and voting systems in the future.
