‘Explain Why You’re Still In Charge’ – Gov. Otti Fires Abure Over Labour Party Crisis.

Published

on

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has criticised the former National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, over the continued issuance and sale of governorship nomination forms to aspirants despite reported objections from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding his leadership status.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Otti’s reaction followed a viral photograph showing Abure presenting a Labour Party nomination form to a former National Vice Chairman of the party, Ceekay Igara, alongside other party officials.

Confirming receipt of the form, Igara told journalists that the action was part of preparations ahead of ongoing legal disputes surrounding the party’s leadership.

He explained that stakeholders were acting with caution to avoid a political vacuum should the court eventually deliver a final ruling on the matter.

Igara said, “We have two matters, one at the Supreme Court and the other at the Federal High Court. If we say Abure should be docile, all the 33 states that conducted congresses will just go into extinction. If the Supreme Court later gives him the structure and primaries have closed, what happens?”

However, Governor Otti, through his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, faulted Abure’s actions, questioning his continued claim to the party’s leadership despite existing court rulings.

Otti argued that a Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal had already recognised Senator Nenadi Usman as the interim leader of the Labour Party prior to the party’s convention.

He insisted that Abure’s actions amount to disregard for judicial decisions, stressing that the party had moved beyond his leadership and that INEC had aligned with the court-recognised structure.

Otti’s aide further stated that INEC could not legitimately supervise any electoral process conducted under Abure’s authority.

He said Abure should explain to Nigerians why he continues to issue nomination forms despite subsisting court judgments, describing the action as a violation of court orders.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has urged Christian denominations across the country to participate in its ongoing three-day National Fasting and Prayer programme for Nigeria’s healing, peace, stability, and future.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The spiritual exercise is scheduled to hold from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2026, and is aimed at seeking divine intervention for the nation, including restoration of peace and security, and an end to violence, terrorism, and criminal activities.

PFN also said the prayers will focus on economic recovery, relief for struggling citizens, wisdom and unity among national leaders, and the conduct of peaceful, credible, and violence-free elections. It added that the programme will also seek the emergence of God-fearing leaders and a renewed spiritual awakening within the church and the nation.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, following a meeting of the National Executive Council held on Friday, May 8, 2026.

According to the Fellowship, despite ongoing efforts by the government, Nigeria continues to face serious challenges across various sectors, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.

PFN described the moment as a critical turning point for the nation, stressing the need for the Church to unite in intercession.

It noted that the fasting and prayer exercise will coincide with Global Pentecost Day and is based on the biblical injunction in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on believers to humble themselves, pray, seek God, and turn away from wrongdoing in order to receive healing for the land.

The group called on pastors, church leaders, youths, women, and Christian faithful across Nigeria to actively take part in the programme.

PFN expressed optimism that Nigeria, which it described as a nation of great destiny and potential, can experience restoration and renewal through unity, righteousness, repentance, and prayer.

The Fellowship further appealed to Nigerians to join in the exercise, emphasizing the need for collective faith, love, and commitment to national peace and progress.

It concluded that divine intervention through unified prayer would bring healing, stability, and a renewed hope for the country.
