“He Refuses To Obey Party” — Abiodun’s Camp Blasts Gbenga Daniel.

Speaking on his behalf, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, told Vanguard that the consensus approach helps political parties reduce internal conflict as well as campaign costs.
He dismissed suggestions that the Ogun East senatorial ticket is a personal entitlement of former governor Gbenga Daniel.
Akinmade explained that consensus arrangements are legally recognised and are often adopted to promote unity within the party and ensure smoother electoral processes.
“Consensus arrangement is part of the Electoral Act. What the leadership of the party believes is that having a consensus will save the party money, prevent internal strife and acrimony, and, at the same time, help the party move forward.
“Those who do not agree with consensus have the option of participating in direct primaries,” he said.
He further noted that the governor had previously assured aspirants who stepped down in favour of consensus candidates that they would be rewarded, adding that many had already benefited from such arrangements.
Akinmade also recalled that Gbenga Daniel himself had once benefited from a consensus arrangement, following reported interventions by the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who persuaded Senator Lekan Mustapha to withdraw from the race.
“The late Awujale of Ijebuland called the governor and other stakeholders and pleaded that Senator Lekan Mustapha should step down for Gbenga Daniel. He listened and stepped down.
“So, if Senator Lekan Mustapha could concede to Daniel, why can’t Daniel also listen to the party?” he asked.
He stressed that the Ogun East senatorial seat is not reserved for any individual, adding that the party has the responsibility of presenting its strongest candidates for the 2027 elections.
Akinmade also stated that there would be no issue if Governor Abiodun decides to contest for a Senate seat.
