The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper during a coordinated security operation that successfully disrupted a planned ₦10 million ransom collection and secured the rescue of an abducted victim in Atiba Local Government Area of the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports indicate that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, May 13, during a joint operation carried out at Otefon Village Forest, where members of the kidnapping gang had gathered to receive ransom from the victim’s family.

The victim, identified as Alhaji Bagudu, was abducted on May 9 from his residence in Ilowa Village by a group of armed men who subsequently whisked him away into the forest.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the operation was launched following credible intelligence provided by operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Oyo State.

According to him, security forces acted swiftly after receiving information that the suspects were preparing to collect ransom.

Ayanlade explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbemiga Abimbola, immediately ordered the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad along the Oyo/Iseyin axis to work alongside local vigilantes in rescuing the victim and apprehending the suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that about six armed men invaded the victim’s home on May 9 before taking him to the Otefon Forest, where they demanded ₦10 million for his release.

He added that operatives first ensured the safe release of the victim before moving in on the suspects to prevent any further harm.

In a carefully coordinated operation supported by intelligence and technological tracking, security operatives confirmed the victim’s release before advancing on the kidnappers’ location.

Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire, triggering a gun battle with the security team.

During the exchange, one suspect identified as Mohammed Sanni was arrested, while others escaped into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.

The police also recovered a motorcycle believed to have been used by the gang for operations, along with a mobile phone, slippers, and a cap, all of which are undergoing forensic analysis.

The command stated that the arrested suspect has already provided useful confessional statements regarding the gang’s activities and his role in the kidnapping operation.

Efforts, according to the police, are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.

The command further urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in ongoing investigations and help bring the remaining suspects to justice.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, has suggested that some Nigerians staying in the country may be in a better financial situation than those who have relocated abroad. Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bwala highlighted the difficulties faced by migrants in countries like the United Kingdom:....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Many Nigerians who left with hopes for better opportunities are currently struggling, despite holding university degrees and earning in foreign currencies.

    • Due to labour market realities, many graduates abroad are working in roles outside their fields of study, such as in warehouses or care facilities.

    • Although migrants may earn thousands of pounds monthly, a significant portion of their income is consumed by essential costs like rent, bills, food, and transportation.

    • Because their earnings are often insufficient to cover these living expenses, many are forced to work multiple jobs just to survive.

    • Bwala noted that the pressure of living abroad often leaves migrants with little disposable income and no safety net, whereas those earning lower incomes in Nigeria can often rely on support from friends and family.

    • Bwala described this experience for many as “modern-day slavery,” arguing that those in Nigeria who believe they are suffering are often better off than those who left five years ago.
