Former Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has withdrawn from the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Yobe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement released to journalists on Wednesday, Baba confirmed his withdrawal, effectively ending his bid for the party’s governorship nomination.

His exit follows days of internal disagreement within the APC over the adoption of a consensus candidate for the governorship race.

Before stepping down, Baba was among six aspirants who rejected the emergence of Baba Malam Wali as the party’s consensus choice, insisting instead on direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and APC guidelines.

The group of dissenting aspirants included Senator Ibrahim Bomai, Mustapha Maihaja, Bashir Machina, Usman Baba, Kashim Musa Tumsah, and Lawan Kolo Geidam.

Earlier, Lawan Kolo Geidam had also withdrawn from the contest and endorsed the party’s consensus arrangement, reducing the number of opposing aspirants to five before Baba’s latest decision further thinned the camp.

With his withdrawal, four aspirants are now left opposing the consensus process.

In his statement, Baba said his decision came after extensive consultations with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, as well as party leaders and stakeholders across all 17 local government areas of Yobe State.

He explained that the move was aimed at preserving unity within the APC and ensuring peace and stability in the state, describing the decision as difficult but necessary for the party’s progress.

Baba also appealed to his supporters to remain calm, urging them to continue supporting the APC and to rally behind whoever eventually emerges as the party’s governorship candidate.

The remaining aspirants still opposing the consensus arrangement include Senator Ibrahim Bomai, Mustapha Maihaja, Bashir Machina, and Kashim Musa Tumsah.

Judgment Day Set: Federal Court To Decide Fate Of Massive ₦60 Billion Facebook Fine!.

Published

on

  • Court Ruling: On June 18, 2026, Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos nullified a ₦60 billion fine that the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) had imposed on Facebook Nigeria Operations Limited.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Basis for Nullification: The court ruled that ARCON exceeded its statutory authority, as the agency lacks the power to impose criminal fines without a prior court conviction. Additionally, the judge determined that ARCON violated the company’s constitutional right to a fair hearing by issuing a penalty without providing an opportunity for the firm to respond to the allegations.

    • Corporate Distinction: The court rejected ARCON’s argument that Facebook Nigeria should be held liable for Meta Platforms Inc.’s operations, holding that the Nigerian entity is a separate legal person from the foreign parent company. The judge noted that ARCON failed to provide sufficient evidence that the Nigerian branch owns or controls the Facebook or Instagram platforms.

    • Regulatory Limits: Justice Bogoro declared the regulator’s October 21, 2024, demand for compliance to be unconstitutional, unlawful, and void. The court issued a perpetual injunction preventing ARCON from taking further action to enforce the fine.

    • Implications: This judgment clarifies that regulatory agencies in Nigeria cannot bypass the judiciary to impose criminal sanctions, setting a significant precedent for the future regulation of digital advertising in the country.

Officials emphasized that Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to maintaining this momentum until security and peace are fully restored to the region.
