Tinubu Faces New Threat As Opposition Plots United Presidential Challenger.

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has revealed that opposition leaders are still considering the possibility of fielding a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday, Abdullahi admitted that the departure of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the ADC represents a setback not only for the party but for the wider opposition movement.

According to him, a fragmented opposition would ultimately strengthen the incumbent’s chances.

“It is not a setback for the ADC in particular, but a setback for the opposition coalition… once you have a three or four-horse race against the incumbent, it’s always an advantage to the incumbent,” he said.

Despite this, Abdullahi maintained that the broader opposition coalition remains active and committed to challenging Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

He stressed that discussions among opposition stakeholders are still ongoing, with the aim of building a formidable alliance that could produce a single candidate.

“The vision of building a big coalition of opposition political parties is still a possibility… because we are convinced that a unified opposition stands a better chance of challenging for power,” he stated.

He added that consultations were continuing and that there was still hope for cooperation among key political figures.

“Our hope… is that we will all still be able to find a way to work together… conversation is still possible in that direction,” he said.

Speaking on the issue of zoning, Abdullahi clarified that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent comments reflected his personal position and not that of the ADC.

He explained that the party’s ultimate focus would be on selecting the strategy that offers the best chance of electoral victory.

“We are going to assess the field… and look at what gives us strategic advantage… the purpose of a political party is to win elections,” he said.

On Peter Obi’s exit from the ADC, Abdullahi said he could not speak on Obi’s personal reasons for leaving, noting that the party had not previously been made aware of any grievances.

“I cannot speak for him… there had not been any conversation around any grievances,” he stated.

Abdullahi also raised concerns over President Tinubu’s recent appointment of an aide on homeland security, warning that creating additional security structures alongside existing offices such as the National Security Adviser and Chief of Defence Staff could complicate coordination.

According to him, such a move may worsen confusion within the nation’s security framework rather than improve it.

“You are likely to add more to the chaos rather than making coordination easier,” he warned.

“Igbos Don’t Want A 4-Year President” – Ikonne Fires Back At Peter Obi.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) Abia South senatorial district aspirant, Prince Paul Ikonne, has said that the Igbo people are not interested in a president who would serve only a single four-year term.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ikonne made the statement during a media interactive session in Abuja on Thursday while reacting to a pledge by Labour Party presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, to serve just one term if elected.

He dismissed the promise, arguing that when it is finally the turn of the South East to produce a president, it should be for the standard two-term tenure of eight years, like other geopolitical zones in the country.

According to him, political stakeholders in the South East, including governors such as Abia State Governor Alex Otti, are supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Ikonne claimed that Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has also established a mobilisation team tasked with sensitising Igbo communities nationwide to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, including door-to-door and market-to-market campaigns.

He insisted that the expected votes for Tinubu in 2027 would come from Igbo populations across the country, not just those in the South East region.

The APC aspirant further argued that the idea of a one-term presidency for the South East is not acceptable, stating that such an arrangement would shortchange the region. He maintained that when the opportunity arises, the Igbo presidency should last the full eight-year cycle.

He also criticized Obi’s four-year promise, questioning its practicality and suggesting that it would waste time in governance processes.
