“You Just Nationalise People’s Shares Like That?” — Rufai Oseni Fires At Oshiomhole.

Senator representing Edo North in the National Assembly, Adams Oshiomhole, has engaged in a heated exchange with Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni over comments on South African investments in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that during an interview on The Morning Show on Tuesday, Oshiomhole suggested that Nigeria should consider nationalising South African-owned businesses in response to the killing of Nigerians in South Africa.

He noted that companies such as MTN are listed on the stock exchange and argued that Nigerian shareholders could retain their investments while shifting control away from South African interests.

According to him, such a move would prevent the repatriation of profits to South Africa.

“We should re-privatise it so Nigerians can take it over, and there would be no repatriation of funds to South Africa,” Oshiomhole said.

He further referenced past political rhetoric in South Africa, claiming that foreign workers were often blamed for local unemployment, and stressed that human life should be prioritised over investment interests.

In his words, Nigeria should not prioritise attracting investors who value profit above human life.

Reacting, Rufai Oseni questioned the practicality and legality of Oshiomhole’s suggestion, especially in relation to Nigeria’s push for foreign direct investment.

He argued that arbitrarily nationalising foreign-owned shares could discourage investors and harm the country’s economic reputation.

“It’s the same government that is saying they want investors. So how does that sound when you can arbitrarily nationalize people’s shares when they come to invest in your country and you want foreign direct investment?” Rufai asked.

He further pressed Oshiomhole, saying, “So if Nigerians have issues with any country, is the solution to nationalise their shares? That’s how Adams Oshiomhole sees things right? You just nationalise people’s shares like that?”

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kwara State has formally requested that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq intervene regarding the party’s candidacy for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 elections. The stakeholders, including local government council officials and APC leaders from Ekiti and Oke-Ero, contend that the candidate currently recognized by the party is not the individual who won the primary election held on May 16, 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Disputed Results: The petitioners claim that Abolarin Ganiyu won the primary with 17,128 votes, while the incumbent, Raheem Tunji Olawuyi, received only 2,978 votes. They expressed concern that Olawuyi, who reportedly placed sixth, is being presented as the winner.

  • Political Imbalance: The stakeholders argue that the constituency has suffered from political inequity since 1999, as the seat has consistently been held by representatives from either Irepodun or Isin local government areas. They noted that Ekiti and Oke-Ero, which collectively comprise 20 of the constituency’s 42 wards, have never produced a representative.

  • Call for Action: In their open letter, the leaders urged Governor AbdulRazaq to work with the APC national leadership to recognize Abolarin Ganiyu as the legitimate candidate. They stated that this correction is necessary to uphold justice, equity, and internal party democracy.
