Azteca Stadium “Sinking” Claims Spark Alarm Ahead of 2026 World Cup.

Concerns are growing over the condition of Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, which is scheduled to host the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after videos emerged showing pieces of concrete reportedly breaking off inside the stadium.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The historic venue, which opened in 1966, is set to host Mexico’s World Cup opener against South Africa on June 11, as well as five matches in total during the tournament. It remains one of football’s most iconic stadiums, having previously hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, and currently holds a capacity of 72,766.

However, just weeks before the tournament begins, fresh concerns have surfaced. According to reports via Complete Sports, footage shared on social media during a recent Liga MX Clausura quarter-final between Club America and Pumas UNAM appeared to show fragments of concrete falling from sections of the stands, including areas that were recently renovated for the World Cup.

No injuries were recorded, although one fan was seen picking up a large piece of debris jokingly calling it a “souvenir.”

The stadium, also known as Banorte Stadium, has undergone extensive renovation works in recent months, including upgrades to its exterior, access points, dressing rooms, lighting systems, and hospitality areas.

Despite these improvements, safety concerns have continued to emerge. The stadium was reopened in March for a friendly match between Mexico and Portugal, an event that was overshadowed by tragedy after a fan died following a fall from a hospitality area. Authorities later said the individual was intoxicated and attempted to climb between levels before falling.

Outside the stadium, additional issues have also raised alarm. In March, a sinkhole opened near the venue, trapping a Coca-Cola truck and prompting emergency recovery operations during a FIFA inspection visit.

Experts have pointed to Mexico City’s unstable ground conditions as a broader concern. Built on an ancient lakebed, the city is experiencing significant land subsidence due to heavy reliance on underground aquifers, with some areas reportedly sinking by nearly 10 inches annually. The international airport is also said to be shifting slightly each month.

The sinking phenomenon is already affecting infrastructure across the capital, with reports of tilting buildings, warped roads, and strain on transport systems. Even major landmarks, including the Angel of Independence monument, have required structural adjustments due to ground movement.

NASA is reportedly monitoring the situation, including the Estadio Azteca, using advanced satellite radar technology to track ongoing land subsidence.

Political Rebellion! Kwara APC Stakeholders Slam Door On Reps Candidate In Shock Move!.

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kwara State has formally requested that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq intervene regarding the party’s candidacy for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 elections. The stakeholders, including local government council officials and APC leaders from Ekiti and Oke-Ero, contend that the candidate currently recognized by the party is not the individual who won the primary election held on May 16, 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Disputed Results: The petitioners claim that Abolarin Ganiyu won the primary with 17,128 votes, while the incumbent, Raheem Tunji Olawuyi, received only 2,978 votes. They expressed concern that Olawuyi, who reportedly placed sixth, is being presented as the winner.

  • Political Imbalance: The stakeholders argue that the constituency has suffered from political inequity since 1999, as the seat has consistently been held by representatives from either Irepodun or Isin local government areas. They noted that Ekiti and Oke-Ero, which collectively comprise 20 of the constituency’s 42 wards, have never produced a representative.

  • Call for Action: In their open letter, the leaders urged Governor AbdulRazaq to work with the APC national leadership to recognize Abolarin Ganiyu as the legitimate candidate. They stated that this correction is necessary to uphold justice, equity, and internal party democracy.
