NDC, ADC May Work Together Before Election – Kwankwaso.

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has suggested that the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could eventually form a political alliance ahead of future elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kwankwaso made the statement on Monday during a live interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he also spoke about his political realignment following his departure from the ADC and his engagement with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He said there is a strong possibility of cooperation between both parties, noting:

“The NDC and ADC may still work together before the election.”

He added that Nigerian politics is currently undergoing significant shifts, but argued that many older politicians fail to fully grasp the changing dynamics.

“People are talking about religion and ethnicity. People are talking, especially those at our ages, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country, and I think they are absolutely right,” he said.

Kwankwaso also revisited his role in the 2015 presidential election, claiming he and his supporters played a major part in helping former President Muhammadu Buhari win, but were neither acknowledged nor rewarded.

He stated that his political structure delivered nearly two million votes for Buhari but received no recognition in return.

“I worked so hard. We brought about 1.9 million, almost 2 million votes. But as politicians, we are not recognised. We put our lives on the line at that time,” he said. “But unfortunately, we could not see any benefit either as individuals or the constituencies that we represented.”

Kwankwaso did not, however, specify what form of reward or recognition he expected from the Buhari administration.

Nigeria’s Political Direction

Reflecting on past administrations since 1999, Kwankwaso said former President Olusegun Obasanjo performed relatively well, while Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s tenure was affected by health challenges. He also noted that Goodluck Jonathan’s government was shaped by political disputes over whether he had agreed to serve only one term.

Speaking on the current administration, he said Nigeria is facing serious governance challenges.

“Everybody knows there are issues with this administration again. And therefore, people are determined at the grassroots level, and even at the level we are operating now, that there should be some level of changes,” he said.

He added that growing dissatisfaction with past governments has strengthened support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), especially since he and Peter Obi joined the party on May 3.

“Since we decided to join NDC, Nigerians have decided to come and join us. People are opening offices everywhere across the world. So we are happy about that,” he said.

Kwankwaso further emphasized that political leadership should not be based on regional or ethnic considerations, arguing that effective governance depends on competence rather than origin.

“What is key is to have quality leadership, people who are enthusiastic, determined and committed to give the country the leadership it deserves,” he said.
