Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has explained why he stayed away from political activities in Gombe State while serving under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Pantami made the clarification during an interview on TVC, where he spoke about internal dynamics within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his role in government at the time.

He said former President Buhari advised him to distance himself from Gombe State politics to avoid tensions with the state governor and to maintain stability within the party.

According to him, the directive was aimed at preventing clashes between federal appointees and state political structures, thereby preserving unity and peace within the APC.

Pantami added that he accepted the advice out of respect for the President who appointed him, noting that it allowed him to fully concentrate on his responsibilities at the federal level.

He explained that staying away from local politics also enabled him to attract development projects to Gombe State without causing political friction.

The former minister said there was a misconception that he abandoned politics in his home state during his tenure, stressing that he remained committed to the party while supporting his constituents through empowerment initiatives, youth programmes, and mentorship across various local government areas.

Pantami further noted that his political status has since changed following his exit from the federal cabinet, adding that he has now returned to active politics due to pressure and encouragement from supporters and grassroots party members.

He said: “Buhari advised me to stay away from Gombe politics because of instructions I received while serving in government. The advice was to prevent any clash between the federal side and the state government.

“I accepted the instruction because I was working under the President and I respected that position. Keeping away from local politics helped me focus fully on my federal duties.

“Now that I am no longer in government, I am back in active politics due to pressure from my supporters.”
