House of Representatives aspirants under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have declared that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would not be beyond scrutiny if elected president in 2027, warning that he would be held fully accountable to Nigerians.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The aspirants stated that any Obi-led administration that fails to deliver on the expectations of the people could face removal from office.

They made this known on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja organised by NDC aspirants alongside members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM).

The event centered on efforts to create what participants described as a responsible, people-focused opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the conference, Nnamdi Iroegbu, NDC aspirant for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in Imo State, stressed that no government should be exempt from accountability, including a potential Peter Obi presidency.

“Every government must be held accountable, including a Peter Obi presidency. By the time he comes on board and fails to do the bidding of the Nigerian people, he will be disengaged,” he said.

Iroegbu added that the 11th National Assembly would differ from previous assemblies if Nigerians entrusted them with power, while also urging citizens not to become instruments of oppression.

He further warned against any electoral malpractice in the 2027 polls, insisting there must be transparency in the process.

“One thing is also certain. There will not be any breach in 2027. There will be no announcements of the results while we are sleeping. INEC should also realise that it is not an appendage of the government,” he stated.

At the same event, COPDEM National Youth Leader, Akor Christian Oche, endorsed the prospect of a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket, describing it as a formidable alliance capable of uniting Nigerians across regional and religious divides.

According to him, Obi’s alignment with the NDC alongside Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement presents a powerful political force.

He argued that Nigeria’s political elite had long divided citizens through ethnic and religious sentiments, adding that the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso coalition could represent a new national direction.

The conference, themed “Rescue Nigeria: Consolidating Hope, Building a New Beginning,” also examined key national issues including insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and governance challenges.

Gambari Ismaila, NDC aspirant for Bwari Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, described the movement as a major political awakening and a rejection of recurring disappointment in governance.

He said the coalition was building a broad-based national movement rooted in justice, security, equity and shared prosperity beyond ethnic or religious boundaries.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Ndube, NDC aspirant for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency in Anambra State, said many aspirants were motivated by patriotism and a desire for meaningful legislative service rather than personal ambition.

Ndube maintained that the incoming lawmakers under the movement would prioritize the interests of Nigerians and ensure the 11th National Assembly reflects genuine service and accountability.
