The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has responded to claims that he exercised undue influence in selecting consensus candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the controversy followed rejection of the consensus arrangement by former Gombe State Governor and Senator representing Gombe Central, Mohammed Danjuma Goje, who is seeking re-election. Goje instead insisted on the conduct of party primaries.

Similarly, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, also faulted the consensus approach, calling for strict adherence to due process in candidate selection.

Reacting to the concerns, Governor Yahaya explained that the process had not been concluded, stressing that it forms part of procedures approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and adopted by the party.

“This is not the end of the process. This is among the new procedures designed by INEC and the party, and we followed it. If some party members feel it does not suit them, they will proceed to the next stage,” he said.

Speaking in a video interview with Gombe State Media Corporation, the governor noted that the arrangement was reached with the agreement of aspirants, describing consensus as one of the recognized methods of selecting candidates within the party.

He explained that the APC provides three methods for choosing candidates: direct primary, indirect (delegate) election, and consensus, which was the option adopted in this case.

“You know there are three procedures for selecting candidates in the party. There is direct primary, delegate election, and the one we adopted, which is consensus,” he said.

Yahaya further clarified that the process remains open, adding that aspirants still have opportunities to contest at subsequent stages.

He added, “Everybody knows his weight, his capability and what he can do in this movement.”
