I Always Become The Target — Peter Obi Speaks On Party Defections.

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has explained the reasons behind his frequent movement from one political party to another.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the former Anambra State governor said his decisions are largely driven by internal crises and ongoing legal disputes within political parties.

Obi made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to the permanent site of the University on the Niger, where he donated ₦25 million in support of the institution.

During the visit, he stressed that he does not defect from parties without cause, insisting that his actions are guided by principles and the instability he often encounters within party structures.

Obi recently moved from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He said he has repeatedly faced situations where parties become engulfed in prolonged court cases and internal conflicts.

According to him, similar challenges were experienced in both the Labour Party and ADC, where he claimed he often became the focal point of internal disagreements, making it difficult to remain.

He said, “I have never left any party for the sake of leaving. I leave when I see conflict and unresolved crises. In the Labour Party, there were endless litigations, and in ADC I faced similar issues. In many cases, I became the target, and I had to move.”

Obi also commented on Nigeria’s political environment, noting that many parties prioritize power acquisition over strengthening democratic values.

He called for improved internal democracy and greater tolerance among political actors.

Security agents on Thursday night arrested the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Bodejo, who is contesting the Taraba Central Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reportedly taken into custody shortly after arriving in the state aboard a private jet.

He had earlier landed at Danbaba Suntai Airport at about 1:20 pm, where he was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters drawn from the five local government areas of the senatorial district.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Daily Trust, his personal aide, Umar, said the arrest occurred after Bodejo visited some security agency offices alongside close political associates.

According to him, the APC aspirant was detained at one of the security offices shortly after addressing supporters at the APC state secretariat in Jalingo.

Umar added that those who accompanied him were asked to leave, while Bodejo was held in custody.

“At the moment, we do not know where he has been taken to,” he said.

“The same security personnel who escorted and protected him from Abuja to Jalingo were the ones who later arrested him.

“We have not been told the reason for his arrest, and we are worried because we don’t know where he is being held.”

‘I Won’t Step Down’ — Bodejo

Before his arrest, Bodejo had addressed journalists at the APC secretariat, where he confirmed that he had purchased his senatorial nomination form and insisted he would not withdraw from the race.

He declared that he was fully committed to contesting and would not succumb to any pressure to step down.

“I am in this race to win, and nobody is going to force me to step down,” he said.

Bodejo also stated that a consensus committee reportedly set up by Governor Agbu Kefas had not reached out to him.

“The consensus committee set up by the governor has not contacted me, and I will not step down for anybody, no matter the pressure,” he added.

Previous Arrest

This is not the first time Bodejo has been detained by security operatives.

In 2024, he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations linked to the formation of a vigilante group in Nasarawa State.

He was picked up at the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore headquarters located at Tundun Maliya Cattle Market along the Abuja–Keffi Expressway in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State during a joint operation involving DSS operatives and soldiers.

The senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Ningi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ningi Ward in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

He said the decision came after extensive consultations with stakeholders, associates, and supporters. Ningi had been a member of the PDP since 1998, spanning more than two decades of party membership.

During his political career under the PDP, he served two terms in the House of Representatives and also two terms as a senator.

In his resignation letter, Ningi described the PDP as “once the largest political party in Africa,” noting that it was previously defined by strong ideology, unity, and democratic principles that encouraged inclusive governance.

However, he said the party had been weakened by internal leadership crises, factional struggles, and competing interests that had eroded its unity and structure.

“It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this once-strong and united platform has become a fragmented organisation with internal leadership wrangling and factional interests,” he stated.

Ningi described his departure from the PDP as one of the most difficult decisions of his political life, stressing that the party had provided him the platform to serve both his constituency and the nation effectively.

He expressed appreciation to PDP leaders at all levels who supported his political journey over the years.

“As I continue my political career outside the Peoples Democratic Party, please accept my best regards,” he concluded.
