Fresh Tension In Court Battle As ADC Warns Of Pressure On Justice Nwite to Step Down

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused agents allegedly linked to the Federal Government of attempting to interfere in an ongoing court case involving Nafiu Bala Gombe.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and made available to Naija News, the party alleged that pressure was being mounted on Justice Emeka Nwite to withdraw from presiding over the matter.

The ADC warned that any interference in the judicial process would undermine the independence of the judiciary and weaken democratic governance in the country.

It claimed that there were plans to compel the judge to recuse himself so that the case could be reassigned to judges allegedly considered more politically favourable.

According to the statement, “The party has uncovered a disturbing plot by desperate forces within the corridors of power to frustrate the course of justice by mounting pressure on Justice Nwite to step aside from the case.”

The opposition party further alleged that the move formed part of a broader effort to use state institutions against political opponents.

It also questioned the scheduling of the case before Justice Nwite on May 8, 2026, despite claims that the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment had not yet been officially released or transmitted to the lower court.

The ADC said this timing raised suspicion and could be part of a calculated effort to justify the judge’s possible withdrawal from the case.

“We have credible reasons to believe that this unusual haste is part of a calculated scheme to force Justice Nwite into recusing himself,” the statement added.

The party emphasised that judicial recusal must follow established legal procedures and should not be influenced by political considerations.

It warned that any attempt to remove the judge through intimidation, pressure, or administrative manipulation would amount to interference in the justice system.

“Judicial recusal is not a toy for political convenience,” the ADC stated.

The party called on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), and other relevant judicial authorities to urgently look into the matter.

It also urged the international community and diplomatic missions in Nigeria to take note of what it described as troubling developments capable of undermining democratic institutions.

The ADC cautioned that efforts to secure favourable judicial outcomes through influence or pressure could damage public trust in the judiciary.

It further stressed that Nigeria’s democracy had suffered in the past due to alleged judicial interference and urged judges to remain independent and resilient.

“The judiciary must remain the last hope of the common man, and not the last refuge of desperate politicians terrified of justice,” the statement concluded.

Otti: Is It Not Embarrassing That Illusory Self-praise Govt Is Desperately Shopping For Endorsements? – APC.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports claiming that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, endorsed Governor Alex Otti for re-election in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, dismissed the alleged endorsement in a statement issued on Friday, describing it as misleading, malicious, and a fabricated propaganda being circulated by the governor’s media team.

The party also criticised what it described as attempts by the Otti administration to seek validation, questioning why a government it accused of self-praise was allegedly “shopping for endorsements.”

Aguoru said the party would ordinarily not have responded but chose to clarify the matter to prevent the public from being misled by false information.

According to the statement, “Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu remains a loyal, committed, and dedicated party man, as well as the undisputed leader of the APC in Abia State.”

It further stressed that Kalu has never at any time, publicly or privately, endorsed Governor Otti for a second term.

The APC maintained that the Deputy Speaker remains fully committed to strengthening the party’s chances in future elections and ensuring victory across all positions in Abia State, including the governorship in 2027.

It added that Kalu remains resolute in his opposition to the current Labour Party-led administration in the state, which the party accused of poor governance and mismanagement in key sectors.

The statement urged residents of Abia State to remain united and continue supporting the APC, which it described as a credible alternative capable of delivering better governance in the state.
