BREAKING: NiMet Issues Fresh Flood Alert As Lagos, Oyo, 17 Other States Face Risk.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh warning that 19 states across the country may experience flash flooding in the coming days as heavy early rains set in.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an advisory released on Thursday, the agency explained that the risk of flooding has increased due to prolonged dry conditions, which have hardened the soil and reduced its ability to absorb rainwater effectively.

NiMet warned that this situation could lead to excessive surface runoff, overwhelming drainage systems and triggering flooding in several communities.

The affected states listed include Zamfara, Nasarawa, Kwara, Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Delta, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Ondo, and Bayelsa.

Residents in these areas were advised to prepare for possible disruptions and take necessary precautions to reduce the impact of potential flooding.

According to the agency, the expected flash floods could cause road inundation, traffic congestion, damage to homes, farmland destruction, and disruption of critical infrastructure.

NiMet also cautioned that blocked drainage systems, power outages, and interruptions in telecommunications services may occur in vulnerable locations.

It further warned that the situation could heighten the risk of injuries and water-borne disease outbreaks if preventive measures are not urgently taken.

“The flooding risk is heightened because dry and hardened soils will prevent water from soaking properly into the ground, leading to increased surface runoff,” the agency stated.

The weather body urged residents to clear blocked drainages, stay updated with official weather reports, and adhere strictly to flood warnings.

Motorists and pedestrians were also advised to avoid driving or walking through flooded roads to prevent accidents and loss of lives.

NiMet called on emergency agencies, state governments, and other stakeholders to strengthen preparedness and response systems to reduce potential disaster impacts.

This warning comes amid earlier federal alerts that over 14,000 communities across 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory may face severe flooding in 2026, raising concerns over possible repetition of past flood disasters that caused widespread displacement and

Otti: Is It Not Embarrassing That Illusory Self-praise Govt Is Desperately Shopping For Endorsements? – APC.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports claiming that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, endorsed Governor Alex Otti for re-election in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, dismissed the alleged endorsement in a statement issued on Friday, describing it as misleading, malicious, and a fabricated propaganda being circulated by the governor’s media team.

The party also criticised what it described as attempts by the Otti administration to seek validation, questioning why a government it accused of self-praise was allegedly “shopping for endorsements.”

Aguoru said the party would ordinarily not have responded but chose to clarify the matter to prevent the public from being misled by false information.

According to the statement, “Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu remains a loyal, committed, and dedicated party man, as well as the undisputed leader of the APC in Abia State.”

It further stressed that Kalu has never at any time, publicly or privately, endorsed Governor Otti for a second term.

The APC maintained that the Deputy Speaker remains fully committed to strengthening the party’s chances in future elections and ensuring victory across all positions in Abia State, including the governorship in 2027.

It added that Kalu remains resolute in his opposition to the current Labour Party-led administration in the state, which the party accused of poor governance and mismanagement in key sectors.

The statement urged residents of Abia State to remain united and continue supporting the APC, which it described as a credible alternative capable of delivering better governance in the state.
