2027 Tension Rises As NDC Rejects Zoning Claims, Denies Regional Power Sharing Plan.

The party maintained that discussions around its presidential ticket are still ongoing and no final position has been reached.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the Deputy National Spokesman of the NDC, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, said the party has neither zoned its presidential ticket nor entered into any agreement with Jonathan.
He explained that the party remains open to broad consultations, stressing that internal deliberations are still in progress.
“The NDC is a party that believes in merging ideas and consultations across boards,” he said. “We have not zoned the presidential ticket. Consultations are still ongoing because politics is dynamic.”
Abdulsalam also revealed that the party is currently attracting interest from several prominent political figures across different parties, including members of the ruling party.
According to him, former governors, ex-ministers, and current or former legislators are already aligning with the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“As I speak, we are still expecting high-profile personalities, including former governors, ex-ministers, serving and former lawmakers, even from the ruling party,” he said. “The NDC is becoming a major attraction for many politicians.”
He further described the reports linking Jonathan to the party as mere speculation, insisting there is no formal discussion within the party leadership on such a move.
“This is another rumour going around that former President Jonathan is considering joining our party,” he said. “There is no concrete move like that within our hierarchy, and no such decision has been taken.”
