“Zero Chance” – Segun Showunmi Makes Explosive Prediction On Peter Obi’s 2027 Bid.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Showunmi has said he believes the 2027 presidential election will ultimately be a contest between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Thursday during an interview on News Central Television, Showunmi argued that the race for the presidency is increasingly shaping up around the two political heavyweights.

According to him, Peter Obi has not demonstrated enough substance on key national issues to convince him of his presidential readiness.

“In terms of who can lead the country, it is between Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, and one will obviously beat the other. The 2027 presidential contest is shaping up mainly between Tinubu and Atiku,” he said.

Showunmi noted that he has been closely observing the major contenders and listening carefully for practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

He added that his past experience as Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson gives him unique insight into the former vice president’s capabilities and policy depth.

“I am cleverly and carefully listening to the candidates, and I am eagerly awaiting solutions. I can dash Atiku some headroom because, don’t forget, I was his spokesperson two times back to back. So there are things I know that reside in his brain and his heart that he has not even told people or the people that are around him,” he stated.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s political direction since 2019, Showunmi said he has paid close attention to ongoing governance efforts, reforms, and broader national restructuring.

However, he was highly critical of Peter Obi, insisting that he has not heard any clear position from the former Labour Party presidential candidate on critical issues such as security and national stability.

“In the case of Peter Obi, I see absolutely zero. Let me repeat, I see absolutely nothing. I’ve never heard him on security. I’ve not even heard him say anything on social stabilization of the country,” he said.

“50% Of You Don’t Even Have PVCs” — Jonathan Fires Back At Youths Begging Him To Contest 2027.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian youths to actively take part in the country’s electoral process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He made the appeal on Thursday when a large group of young people visited his residence to urge him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing the gathering, Jonathan noted that while many of the youths were calling for his return to politics, a significant number of them did not possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He used the opportunity to draw attention to growing voter apathy in the country, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the issue. According to him, many Nigerians, especially young people, appear disengaged from elections.

Jonathan stressed that youths must be fully involved in the democratic process, warning that political participation begins with voter registration.

He said, “Probably 50% of you don’t even have voters card and you are asking me to go and contest the election.”

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja is set to hear on Friday a suit seeking to stop Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case was filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, who is asking the court to declare the former president constitutionally ineligible to run again.

On April 28, Justice Peter Lifu ordered that hearing notices be served on all defendants, who had yet to file their responses.

The plaintiff is seeking an order restraining Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party as a candidate, as well as preventing INEC from accepting or publishing his name.

Jonathan is listed as the first defendant in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, while INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation are joined as second and third defendants.

The plaintiff is asking the court to interpret constitutional provisions to determine whether Jonathan is still eligible to contest, given that he had completed the tenure of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before winning a full term in 2011.

In an affidavit, Emmanuel Agida argued that Jonathan had already served the constitutional limit of two terms and that allowing him to run again would amount to a third presidential oath of office.

He said the case was filed in the public interest to uphold constitutional supremacy and preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.

Bamidele Fires Back At Oshiomhole In Explosive Senate Plenary Exchange.

A mild drama unfolded on Thursday during the Senate plenary between Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident followed the Senate’s decision to reverse amendments to its Standing Orders, a move that reopened competition for key leadership positions in the 11th National Assembly, including the Senate Presidency race ahead of 2027. The reversal, backed by a motion sponsored by Bamidele, removed earlier restrictions that had limited eligibility for the top seat.

The development effectively paved the way for lawmakers such as Hope Uzodimma, Adams Oshiomhole, and others to contest for Senate President in 2027.

Shortly after the reversal, Oshiomhole called for more thorough debate on key decisions, arguing that the amendment process earlier passed on Tuesday was rushed.

However, his remarks were challenged by Bamidele, who raised a point of order and described the comments as unnecessary. The Senate Leader said lawmakers were all present during the proceedings and witnessed what he termed avoidable drama.

He advised Oshiomhole to channel any concerns through proper leadership channels instead of disrupting plenary sessions, stressing that the Senate would not tolerate conduct that undermines its proceedings.

“We were all in the chamber and witnessed the kind of drama that went on even though it was totally unnecessary,” Bamidele said.

He further warned that such incidents were projecting a negative image of the National Assembly and must be avoided going forward.

Citing Order 52(6) of the Senate Rules, Bamidele explained that any previously decided matter could only be revisited through a formal motion for rescission.

He added that if Oshiomhole had issues with the amendment, the proper procedure was to file a substantive motion rather than raise objections during plenary.

“We cannot allow this kind of drama to go on every time on the floor of this Senate. We must put a stop to it,” he stated.

Presiding over the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin upheld the point of order raised by the Senate Leader.

Court Set To Hear Suit Seeking Disqualification Of Goodluck Jonathan From 2027 Presidential Race.

A Federal High Court in Abuja is scheduled to hear on Friday a suit seeking to prevent former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The suit was filed by a lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, who is asking the court to declare Jonathan constitutionally ineligible to run for the office of President again.

On April 28, Justice Peter Lifu directed that hearing notices be served on all defendants, who were yet to file their responses in the case.

In his application, Jideobi is also seeking an order restraining Jonathan from offering himself to any political party as a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election. He further wants the court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan’s name as a candidate.

Jonathan is listed as the first defendant in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, while INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation are joined as second and third defendants.

The plaintiff is asking the court to interpret whether, in line with Sections 1(1), (2), and (3) as well as 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution, Jonathan is still eligible to contest for the presidency under any circumstance.

He argued that Jonathan has already reached the constitutional limit, having completed the tenure of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before serving a full term after winning the 2011 election.

In an affidavit supporting the suit, Emmanuel Agida stated that Jonathan assumed office on May 6, 2010, following Yar’Adua’s death, and later completed a full elected term.

He added that concerns over Jonathan’s alleged interest in the 2027 election prompted the legal action.

The affidavit further stated that allowing Jonathan to contest again would amount to a third presidential oath of office if he were to win.

According to the plaintiff, the case is being pursued in the public interest to uphold constitutional provisions and protect the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.
