The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has suspended its ongoing indefinite strike that began on April 30.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision followed a meeting on Tuesday with the Federal Government’s Expanded Renegotiation Committee, where both sides deliberated on outstanding issues concerning workers’ demands and the conclusion of the 2009 agreement renegotiation.

According to JAC, the suspension became necessary to allow the committee secure approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a possible review of the government’s earlier proposal.

In a circular jointly signed by SSANU National President and JAC Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, and NASU General Secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, branch leaders were informed that the suspension takes effect from Monday, May 11, 2026.

The circular noted that the leadership of JAC had engaged in a series of negotiations with government representatives since the commencement of the strike on May 1, 2026, aimed at addressing members’ demands.

It further explained that during the latest meeting chaired by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, the renegotiation committee stressed the need for presidential approval before any further adjustments to the government’s offer could be made.

JAC added that it secured a commitment that all renegotiations, including a revised CONTISS-related offer, would be concluded within two weeks of suspending the strike.

Branch leaders were directed to hold congresses to brief members and implement the suspension, while engagements with relevant stakeholders will continue.

The unions also referenced appeal letters from the Expanded Tertiary Institutions Renegotiation Committee and a withdrawal notice regarding the previously proposed 30 percent increase in CONTTA.

The leadership expressed appreciation to members for their full compliance throughout the industrial action.
