Sneijder Wishes UEFA Cancelled Arsenal Vs Atlético Madrid UCL Clash.

Wesley Sneijder has praised Arsenal for their hard-fought victory over Atlético Madrid, which secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final, while also strongly criticising the quality of the match.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A first-half goal from Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal a 1-0 win in the second leg of the semi-final on Tuesday, sealing a 1-0 aggregate triumph and sending Mikel Arteta’s side into the final later this month. The Gunners will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the decisive match.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport, Sneijder applauded Arsenal’s achievement and their impressive journey through the competition.

“With this team, it is so impressive to reach the final. Leaving all the other world-class teams behind you. I think that is very impressive,” he said.

However, the former Netherlands international did not hold back in his criticism of the game itself, suggesting UEFA should have intervened due to the lack of entertainment.

“After 35 minutes, I said UEFA must intervene. They need to call London: both teams off the pitch, and tomorrow the final should be Bayern Munich against Paris Saint-Germain,” Sneijder remarked.

He added that the match played out exactly as expected under Diego Simeone, with Atlético sitting deep and allowing Arsenal to dominate possession.

“I knew this would happen, Atlético dropped back and gave away possession, and Arsenal had a lot of control over the ball,” he said.

Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to establish state police. However, in an interview on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Dickson cautioned against rushing the implementation of this policy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prioritizing Current Crises: Dickson suggested that the government should focus its immediate efforts on combating terrorism and insecurity, arguing that the establishment of a state police force should be deferred to the next administration.

  • Decentralization Concerns: While backing the move to decentralize policing, Dickson advocated for broader structural changes, specifically recommending the decentralization of mineral rights to facilitate resource control.

  • Proposed Phased Approach: Rather than an immediate shift to state police, he argued that policing should first be decentralized to the zonal level.

  • Proposed Constitutional Oversight: He outlined a preference for amending the constitution to empower governors to appoint police commissioners, subject to confirmation by the Police Service Commission and oversight by the state Houses of Assembly.

Additionally, the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed skepticism regarding the timing of the initiative. Obi specifically questioned the appropriateness of amending the constitution to grant such significant powers to governors shortly before an upcoming election.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, in Abuja on Monday, Atiku characterized these alleged efforts as a strategic assault on the opposition by “anti-democratic elements” within the governing party. Atiku further contended that the ruling establishment is leveraging political and legal maneuvers to destabilize the opposition and compromising neutral institutions for partisan gain. Emphasizing that the integrity of the electoral process is vital to the nation, he stated that administrative actions cannot stifle the public’s desire for political change or undermine democracy.

Consequently, he has called upon the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security services, civil society groups, and the international community to safeguard the electoral process against such interference.
