Shock As Court Suspends Investigation Into Adichie Family Case Over AG Order.

The Coroner’s Court sitting at the Igbosere Magistrate Court on Lagos Island has suspended further proceedings in the inquest into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Coroner’s Court Suspends Hearing

The suspension followed a directive from the Lagos State Attorney-General’s office, which instructed that all proceedings be put on hold pending a scheduled meeting involving all parties connected to the case. The court further stated that the matter would remain on hold until it receives instructions from the Chief Coroner, Justice Mojisola Dada.

Attorney-General’s Directive

During the sitting, lawyers from the Attorney-General’s office informed the court that Attorney-General Lawal Pedro had ordered the suspension of the inquest until after a meeting set for May 12, 2026. The meeting is expected to bring together all stakeholders involved in the case.

Court Criticism Of The Directive

Coroner Magistrate Atinuke Adetunji expressed concern over the directive, stating that the Attorney-General’s office acted without properly notifying the court. She emphasized that the judiciary operates independently and should not be directed by the Ministry of Justice in that manner.

She further noted that any action capable of affecting ongoing proceedings ought to have been formally communicated to the court in advance.

Proceedings Stall Despite Witness Presence

The day’s hearing was disrupted even though the deceased’s father, Dr Esege, was present in court and reportedly prepared to give his testimony before the suspension was announced.

Counsel to the family, Adeyinka Aderemi (SAN), explained that parties had initially been informed of a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, but were later notified late on Monday that it had been postponed.

Background Of The Inquest

The inquest commenced on February 25 to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Nkanu was reportedly transferred from Atlantis Paediatric Hospital to Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital for medical treatment and died in the early hours of January 7, 2026, while preparations were underway to move him to Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The court is expected to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether any individual or institution bears responsibility.

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has issued an apology to teammate Álvaro Carreras following a reported altercation in the dressing room after the club’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, the incident occurred at the training ground two weeks ago, where Rudiger allegedly lost his temper and had to be separated from Carreras.

Carreras has since acknowledged that there was a disagreement but downplayed its seriousness, insisting the issue has already been resolved internally within the squad.

He said the situation was an isolated case and stressed that his relationship with all his teammates remains strong and unaffected.

The left-back, who returned to Real Madrid last summer from Benfica in a deal worth around €50 million, has recently been the subject of speculation regarding tensions in the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Spanish media reports suggest Rudiger has taken steps to mend relations, including organising a team dinner with players and their families last Friday.

The episode comes amid a challenging period for the club. Former coach Xabi Alonso reportedly left in January following internal unrest, while his successor Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to depart at the end of the season.

Off-field attention has also turned to Kylian Mbappé, who travelled to Sardinia while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Betis. Real Madrid went on to secure a 2-0 win over Espanyol during his absence.

Mbappé was later spotted on a yacht with actress Ester Expósito, drawing criticism ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico against Barcelona at Camp Nou, where Barcelona need just a point to clinch the league title.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, shut down Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island for allegedly discharging raw sewage into a public drainage system.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement followed reports that the facility was pumping untreated waste into drains, alongside wastewater spillages from a blocked sewage chamber. The situation reportedly caused a foul smell and environmental nuisance in the area.

The statement confirmed that the centre was sealed after investigations showed improper wastewater management practices that violated environmental regulations.

In a separate operation, officials also sealed Foodies Restaurant at No. 32B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, for releasing untreated wastewater into public drains.

Authorities said the restaurant’s waste contained heavy deposits of oil and fat, which blocked drainage channels, leading to pollution, offensive odour, and disruption of the environment, despite prior warnings.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its warning to residents and business operators to adhere strictly to approved wastewater disposal guidelines.

It added that any individual or organisation found violating environmental laws would face sanctions, including possible prosecution, in line with existing regulations.
