Political Shockwave As NDC Gains Over 10 Million Members Hours After Peter Obi’s Entry

The South-West Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, Dr Adefolaseye Adebayo, has claimed that nearly 10 million Nigerians registered with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) within 24 hours of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi joining the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adebayo made the assertion on Monday during an interview on Arise TV while responding to criticisms suggesting that Obi’s presidential prospects had weakened after his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.

Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso officially left the ADC for the NDC on Sunday ahead of the next general elections.

reports that the move has generated widespread political reactions, with some critics arguing that Obi’s decision to switch parties again could negatively affect his chances in the 2027 presidential race.

However, Adebayo rejected that view, insisting that Obi remains a formidable political figure with nationwide appeal.

According to her, Obi’s political strength goes beyond party affiliation and is rooted in his personality, track record, and what many Nigerians see as his competence.

She stressed that the former Anambra governor commands loyal supporters across all six geopolitical zones and said it would be inaccurate to conclude that his political relevance had diminished because of his move to the NDC.

“Mr Peter Obi has a lot of followership across Nigeria. You can’t say that Obi’s chances or the chance of the South East have drastically reduced.

“24 hours after Peter Obi left ADC, 10 million Nigerians registered with NDC and that says a lot,” she said.

The defection of Obi and Kwankwaso to the NDC has further intensified political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Supporters of both politicians believe their alliance could reshape opposition politics and build a formidable alternative platform, particularly among Nigerians dissatisfied with the current political establishment.

Adebayo maintained that Obi’s popularity remains strong and that his supporters are more committed to his vision than to any specific political party.

She added that the reported surge in NDC registrations following Obi’s entry demonstrates sustained public interest in his political movement and the broader Obi-Kwankwaso alliance.
