“Obi Has Set Igbos Back 20 Years” — ADC Chieftain Maigari Sparks Political Controversy.

A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Legislators’ Forum, Hon. Kasimu Maigari, has claimed that former presidential candidate Peter Obi has set back the possibility of an Igbo presidency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Maigari made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News while discussing recent political developments, including Obi’s reported defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He argued that Obi’s political activities have not advanced the long-standing aspiration of the South-East to produce Nigeria’s next president, but instead have delayed it.

Maigari further alleged that many of Obi’s supporters are motivated by personal political ambitions, such as securing positions in state assemblies, the House of Representatives, or governorship offices, using Obi’s popularity as a political advantage.

He said, “My worry is not if Peter Obi will win the presidency; my worry is that Peter Obi has pushed Igbo’s 20 years backwards from getting the Presidency.

“Peter Obi will not win the 2027 election; it is very obvious. The only people who follow Obi and Kwankwaso are those who think they will rise on their backs to get elected and then defect and leave them.

“99 per cent of those running around Peter Obi have the ambition of running either state assembly, House of Reps or governor and the only easiest way for them to win an election is when Peter Obi or Rabiu Kwankwaso is on the ballot.”

Despite his criticism, Maigari maintained that the ADC remains stable and strategically positioned ahead of the 2027 elections.

He added that Obi’s influence in some regions could indirectly work in favour of the ADC and potentially affect President Bola Tinubu’s political strength.

According to him, “ADC remains intact. Peter Obi is going to serve as our agent in the places Tinubu thought he was going to make it, and this is our advantage as ADC.”
