Governorship Tension: Presidency Blocs Back Kwara Central Against Governor Abdulrazaq’s Preference.

Published

on

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, were absent from a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting on 2027 electoral tickets, reportedly to avoid making firm political commitments regarding developments in their respective states.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The meeting was convened to deliberate on the demands of senators and House of Representatives members seeking return tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sources who spoke with The Nation said both governors stayed away due to unresolved political considerations in Kwara and Ogun States.

In Kwara, AbdulRazaq is said to be advocating for the governorship ticket to be zoned to Kwara North Senatorial District. However, power blocs within the APC and the Presidency are reportedly backing Kwara Central due to its stronger voting strength.

A source explained, “The governor wants to produce his successor from Kwara North, and he is also desirous of the Kwara Central Senatorial District ticket. The party is ready to concede the senatorial slot to him, but the governorship ticket is for Kwara Central in order to checkmate the resurgence of the political influence of a former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki.

“Also, the party cannot underrate the voting strength of Sen. Saliu Mustapha, who is presently representing Kwara Central District.”

The source further noted that other APC governorship hopefuls from Kwara Central include the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman; former ACN governorship candidate, Dele Belgore (SAN); ex-senator, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe; and businessman, Dr Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki.

Ogun East Ticket Controversy

In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor Gbenga Daniel are reportedly at odds over the Ogun East senatorial ticket ahead of 2027.

A source said the disagreement followed the reported allocation of the governorship ticket to Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

According to the source, “Having conceded the governorship slot to Sen. Solomon Adeola Yayi, the governor felt he should not be denied an opportunity to be a Senator.

“Daniel is determined to return to the Senate. He said Abiodun has emerged as the consensus APC aspirant of the district in a kangaroo manner.”

Meanwhile, reports indicated that both governors travelled to France for separate meetings with President Bola Tinubu.

However, a source close to the situation claimed AbdulRazaq’s absence from the APC meeting was due to ill health.

“The message we got from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was that he was sick and he travelled abroad,” the source said.

2027 Power Shift? INEC Clears Atiku And 470 ADC Candidates For Massive Electoral Battle!.

Published

on

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed it will only accept candidates submitted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership faction headed by Senator David Mark for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Recognition and Nominations: INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna stated that the commission granted the Mark-led faction access to its nomination portal following a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed their authority. Consequently, this faction has successfully submitted candidates for 471 positions, including the presidency, 109 senatorial districts, and 360 House of Representatives constituencies.

  • Rejection of Rival Claims: The commission clarified that a rival faction led by Nafiu Gombe has no legal basis to submit candidates, noting that its appeal for recognition had failed.

  • Allegations of Forgery: The ADC has officially accused Nafiu Gombe of circulating forged documents that falsely claimed he had accessed INEC’s secure portal to upload candidates. The party is now calling for law enforcement to investigate and prosecute Gombe and his associates for attempting to mislead the public.

  • Appellate Court Ruling: While the Court of Appeal recently upheld a lower court ruling that restrained INEC from recognizing state congresses conducted by the Mark-led caretaker leadership, the ADC insists this decision does not impact the presidential or National Assembly nominations. The party maintains that those primaries remain valid and separate from the ongoing dispute over ward, local government, and state-level congresses.

  • INEC’s Stance: INEC indicated it will not take a formal position on the recent Court of Appeal judgment until it has obtained and thoroughly reviewed the Certified True Copy of the ruling, which is expected within 48 hours.
