Big Political Defection As Binani Quits ADC For NDC Ahead Of Elections.

Published

on

Former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a fresh political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Binani received her NDC membership card on Friday, about nine months after leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

She said her decision to join the NDC was influenced by the party’s structure, its focus on policy-driven governance, and consultations with her political supporters in Adamawa State.

Speaking after her official registration, Binani acknowledged that Nigerians might question her frequent party movement, but insisted that political decisions are often shaped by changing circumstances and local realities.

She explained that she would not denounce her past political affiliations, adding that her priority has always been the interest of her supporters.

According to her, the move to the NDC was largely driven by her political base, who had already begun aligning with the party and encouraged her to join.

Binani further stated that her supporters remain central to her political journey, noting that much of her success has been built on their backing and participation.

She also expressed appreciation to the National Working Committee of the NDC for welcoming her into the party, while calling for fairness, justice, transparency, and stronger internal democracy within the organisation.

In response, the National Leader of the NDC and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, welcomed Binani and described the party as open, inclusive, and ready to accommodate new members nationwide.

Dickson said the party is prepared to harness the energy and contributions of new entrants, adding that leadership structures in Adamawa would be reorganised through democratic processes.

He also encouraged politicians dissatisfied with their current parties to consider joining the NDC, stressing that individuals have the constitutional right to move between political platforms.

According to him, politics is a journey, and anyone in an unfavourable political environment is free to seek a better platform.

He described the NDC as a “strong and reliable political vehicle” capable of delivering results and urged interested politicians not to delay their decisions.

Binani was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Adamawa election, where she challenged incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a closely contested race.

The election gained national attention after a controversial declaration by the then Resident Electoral Commissioner was later overturned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which also suspended the official involved.

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently stated that Nigerians prioritize electing a leader based on competence, justice, and public service over religious considerations. During an appearance on Arise Television, Adebayo argued that the ongoing debate regarding a “Muslim-Muslim” ticket for the 2027 elections is misguided.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Critique of the Current Administration: Adebayo characterized the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as a “zero-zero ticket,” asserting that it has failed to uphold the principles of justice expected by the public.

  • Rejection of Religious Sentiment: He maintained that he opposed the “Muslim-Muslim” argument during the 2023 election cycle, noting that Islamic jurisprudence emphasizes justice over a leader’s religious identity.

  • Governance Principles: Adebayo argued that Islamic principles dictate that public office should be entrusted to those who are most qualified, rather than being distributed based on bias, favoritism, or the expectation of rewards.

  • Manipulation Allegations: He accused proponents of using the concept of a “Muslim-Muslim” ticket to manipulate and defraud the electorate through religious sentiment.

  • Focus on National Priorities: The SDP candidate emphasized that Nigerians are currently more concerned with insecurity, economic hardships, and access to justice than with the religious background of political candidates.

  • Irony in Leadership: Citing the political grievances of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Adebayo pointed out the irony that even a prominent proponent of the same-faith ticket is now seeking justice himself.

Adebayo concluded by stating that there is no public support for such tickets and that Nigerians are unlikely to be swayed by religious appeals in 2027.
