Legal Win, Political Risk: Mahdi Shehu Raises Alarm Over ADC Supreme Court Ruling.

Published

on

Public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to celebrate prematurely over a recent Supreme Court ruling involving the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a post on his official X handle on Thursday, Shehu described the judgment as one that appears favourable on the surface but could still pose serious risks to the party.

He said the decision is “pregnant with risks” and may ultimately become a setback if the ADC becomes complacent.

Shehu noted that the ruling does not represent a final determination of the case, explaining that it is linked to an interlocutory appeal rather than a substantive judgment.

According to him, the main case is still ongoing at the Federal High Court, where it will be fully heard and decided.

He further pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) operates on a strict, time-bound electoral timetable that cannot easily be altered.

Shehu warned that additional legal battles are likely, especially if any of the factions involved loses at the trial court level.

He added that such an outcome would likely trigger further appeals up to the Court of Appeal and possibly the Supreme Court.

Even in a scenario where the ADC eventually prevails, he cautioned that timing could work against the party.

By then, he argued, INEC may have progressed too far in its preparations for elections, making any late victory less meaningful.

He concluded by advising the ADC to remain alert and prepare for further political and legal challenges ahead.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by Senator David Mark, has officially denied claims made by the Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction regarding the successful upload of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal for the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Abdullahi dismissed the Gombe faction’s claims as a “blatant lie,” challenging them to provide concrete evidence of their purported upload.

  • He explained that INEC does not issue portal access or nomination codes to party factions it does not recognize, nor would the Commission issue two separate codes to a single party.

  • Abdullahi argued that allowing such uploads would set a dangerous precedent where any impostor could claim to be a party’s authentic leadership.

  • The ADC has formally requested that INEC investigate the situation, raising concerns about potential forgery and the unauthorized use of documents, which they fear could undermine public confidence in the electoral body.
