News reports that the announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noting that Mohammed was relieved of his appointment just four months after assuming office. The presidency did not provide detailed reasons for his removal, beyond referencing provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 as the legal basis for the decision. Findings show that Mohammed was still attending the Pipeline Technology Conference in Berlin, Germany, held between April 27 and 30, 2026, when the directive for his dismissal was issued. The development marks another leadership change at the NMDPRA within a short period, as the agency has now seen two heads in less than five months. It will be recalled that Ahmed Faruk previously led the regulatory body before being removed in December 2026 following allegations of corruption levelled by billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, after which he stepped down.
