Zoning Tension Rocks Ondo APC As Kekemeke Faces Strong Opposition.

Published

on

Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have written a petition to the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, over the senatorial ambition of the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-West), Isaac Kekemeke, who is eyeing the Ondo South Senatorial District ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The leaders, drawn from Agadagba-Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area—Kekemeke’s own axis—described his decision to contest as ill-timed and poorly considered.

Kekemeke had recently declared his intention to run for the Senate following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The concerned party members argued that it would be inappropriate for Kekemeke to pursue the ticket, noting that he shares the same local government area with Ambassador Sola Iji, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Russia, and the same federal constituency as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

In their petition, they also cited provisions of the Electoral Act, particularly Sections 84 and 88, insisting that political appointees must resign from office before contesting elections.

They alleged that Kekemeke currently holds dual positions as APC South-West Zonal Chairman and Chairman of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), questioning his eligibility to contest.

The petition further recalled that during the last governorship election, Kekemeke reportedly did not resign before participating in the race, describing it as a pattern that should not be repeated.

The group therefore demanded that he present evidence of resignation from both positions, including acknowledgement letters, to ensure compliance with the law and protect the party from legal challenges.

They urged the APC national leadership to enforce its constitution and uphold the provisions of the Electoral Act in handling the matter.

“Exam Fee Shock! WAEC And NECO Fees Skyrocket To ₦50,000, Sparking National Outrage!”.

Published

on

The Federal Government has approved a new ₦50,000 registration fee for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examinations, effective from 2027. This amount reflects an approximately 82 per cent increase from the current fee of ₦27,500.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The approval was conveyed in a June 18, 2026, letter signed by Adeniji Ibrahim, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Senior Secondary Education, following a March 31, 2026, meeting between the Minister of Education and examination bodies regarding rising operational costs. Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, confirmed the official approval of the upward review.

Stakeholder Concerns and Criticism Education experts, private school proprietors, and political stakeholders have voiced strong opposition to the fee hike, warning of several potential consequences:

  • Access to Education: Stakeholders warned that the increase could place significant burdens on struggling families, force children out of school, and undermine efforts to expand educational access.

  • Out-of-school Crisis: Adaramoye Michael Lenin of the Education Rights Campaign argued the hike is counterproductive and will worsen the country’s out-of-school crisis by making education appear commercialized and unaffordable.

  • Retention Challenges: Mrs. Dorothy Okwuenu of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (FCT chapter) stated the increase could derail policies aimed at providing 12 years of uninterrupted basic education by discouraging school retention.

  • Broad Impact: Educators, including Dr. Mary Chinwuba and Rosemary Onyenagubo, expressed concerns that the hike will widen the educational opportunity gap, leaving children from low-income households behind while making formal education accessible primarily to the wealthy.

  • State Government Pressures: The fee increase could force state governments that sponsor candidates to provide significantly higher budgetary allocations, creating further financial strain.

Political Response

  • Atiku Abubakar: The ADC presidential candidate criticized the move as “cruel and economically insensitive,” arguing that it conflicts with the government’s constitutional responsibility to make education accessible to all children.

  • Resurfaced Context: Amid the backlash, a 2001 video of then-Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu resurfaced, showing him describing his administration’s decision to pay WAEC fees for students because many parents could not afford the costs at that time.

“The Brutal Bargain: How Police Arrested Kidnappers’ Relatives To Force Oyo Pupils’ Release!”

Published

New details have revealed that the strategic arrest of the suspects’ relatives was a decisive factor in the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area. The victims, originally numbering 39 pupils and seven teachers from the Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota, and Alawusa communities, were seized on May 15, 2026. Following the tragic death of one teacher in captivity, the remaining hostages were finally freed on July 10, 2026, through a collaborative mission between the military and the Department of State Services (DSS).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Targeted Apprehensions: Security operatives identified and arrested the wives and children of the suspected kidnappers across various locations in the country after weeks of intelligence work.

  • Interrogations and Leverage: These family members were relocated to Abuja for interrogation, and leaked videos of these sessions significantly altered the kidnappers’ behavior.

  • Shift in Negotiations: Upon seeing the footage, the abductors abandoned their initial hardline stance and became more frequent in their communications with security forces.

  • Rejected Demands: The kidnappers attempted to negotiate an exchange of the hostages for their detained family members and sought safe passage, but security agencies rejected these conditions, insisting on the unconditional release of the victims.

  • Final Rescue: Investigators believe the detention of the kidnappers’ relatives protected the hostages from harm, as the abductors grew fearful for their own family members’ safety. Security forces simultaneously tightened their cordon around the forest hideout, leading to the eventual rescue of the captives.

The rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical and psychosocial support following their ordeal, which lasted more than 50 days.

  • Presidential Replacement: On June 26, 2026, the Presidency, through Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, announced that Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas was appointed as the new head of the agency to replace George.

  • Resignation Controversy: Reports indicate George had resigned to contest the APC governorship primary in Rivers State; although he was cleared to run, he withdrew from the race to support another candidate.

  • Defiance of Order: Following the loss of his bid for the governorship ticket, George reportedly returned to the BCDA office and has refused to vacate the position.

  • Conflicting Claims: While George has claimed that he never resigned and that an “error” regarding his replacement was “corrected,” presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has explicitly stated that these claims are untrue and that Namdas remains the appointed head.

  • Ongoing Activities: Despite the Presidency’s directive, George continues to act as the agency’s head, including holding official meetings and maintaining his profile as the Executive Secretary on the agency’s official website.

  • Alleged Backing: Sources suggest George is receiving support from influential figures, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who previously nominated him for the role in 2024, and is allegedly working with other officials to maintain his position without the President’s direct knowledge.
