Reports say the incident, which allegedly happened on Sunday, triggered public outrage after a video surfaced on social media showing the suspect restrained before being shot.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, Bright Edafe, said the officer had been arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary action.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (referred to in the statement as Anthony Placid), also confirmed the incident, explaining that Ogidi was arrested at the Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway after allegedly being found attempting to send a parcel suspected to contain a pistol.

He said preliminary findings showed that operatives of the Effurun Area Command acted on credible intelligence provided by transport union members at the park.

According to him, while officers were trying to lawfully take the suspect into custody, ASP Nuhu Usman allegedly discharged his firearm in violation of police operational guidelines, resulting in Ogidi’s death.

The police said the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the officer and members of his team to Abuja for further disciplinary proceedings before the Force Disciplinary Committee, with possible prosecution.

The statement added that the IGP has extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring that justice will be served.

The police also urged the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, stressing that the Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy for extrajudicial actions and abuse of authority.

“Total Domination! APC Tells Opposition ‘You Are Not Ready’ After INEC Extends Deadline”

Published

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized opposition parties following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to extend the deadline for candidate submissions for the 2027 elections from July 11 to July 14, 2026. APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka stated that while INEC acted within its powers, the extension highlights the opposition’s lack of operational capacity and inability to manage internal processes, noting that the APC successfully met the initial deadline despite having a larger number of candidates. The party further dismissed claims that it exerts control over INEC, arguing that the opposition’s need to request an extension from the same body they frequently criticize reveals hypocrisy. The APC concluded by asserting that its timely submission demonstrates superior organizational discipline and readiness for the upcoming polls, urging its members to focus on grassroots mobilization and the achievements of the “Renewed Hope Agenda”.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Following an INEC deadline extension for the 2027 election candidate uploads, the ruling APC has mocked opposition parties, claiming they are unprepared for the upcoming general elections. While INEC granted the extension to July 14, 2026, after an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the APC used the moment to emphasize its own efficiency, highlighting that it had already finalized its candidate list before the original July 11 deadline. In a statement, the party argued that opposition parties—which have fewer candidates to manage than the APC—failed to meet the initial cutoff, raising doubts about their competence to govern. The APC also pointed out the irony of opposition parties seeking help from an electoral body they often accuse the APC of controlling, labeling such behavior as hypocritical.
