News earlier reported that Obi, alongside some South-East leaders, met with Jonathan at his residence on Monday.

Speaking after the meeting, the former Anambra State governor explained that the visit was aimed at engaging Jonathan on national issues and discussing preparations for the 2027 elections in the interest of Nigeria.

He said the discussions centred on ways to reposition the country and encourage collaboration among leaders to address Nigeria’s challenges.

Obi added that the 2027 elections should be viewed not merely as a routine political process, but as a key moment to reset the nation’s direction.

According to him, Nigeria is currently facing economic hardship, insecurity, and social divisions, making it necessary for leaders across regions to consult and work together for the good of the country.

He stressed that the country needs leadership driven by competence, character, capacity, and compassion, rather than personal ambition.

Obi further stated that governance should focus on creating opportunities and development rather than merely managing existing resources.

He called for a shift from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one that fully harnesses Nigeria’s human and natural resources.

The former presidential candidate maintained that the 2027 elections should prioritise improving education, supporting businesses, and ensuring national security and functionality.

He expressed confidence that through unity of purpose and sincere dialogue, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and achieve meaningful progress.

Obi concluded by reiterating his belief that a better Nigeria is achievable.

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving ₦68 billion as operational support for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), saying the intervention will help improve security in Borno State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ndume, who represents Borno South, said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision reflects the federal government’s responsiveness to the long-standing complaints of residents affected by persistent electricity shortages.

He argued that restoring stable electricity would also help disrupt what he described as the recruitment pipeline for terrorists by improving economic activity and reducing idle youth involvement in crime.

According to him, reliable power supply would strengthen the informal sector and boost small and medium-scale enterprises, while also supporting military efforts against insurgency, which he said thrives in darkness and poor visibility.

Ndume stated that he joined Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and other stakeholders in appreciating President Tinubu for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention.

He said the funding for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant would serve as a lifeline for economic recovery in the state.

“The fund released to the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant is a lifeline that would ultimately engender economic activities, particularly operations of medium and small-scale enterprises (SMEs),” he said.

He added that improved economic conditions would help reduce vulnerability to terrorist recruitment.

Ndume also urged government agencies, security forces, and residents to protect power infrastructure from vandalism or attacks by insurgents.

He called for greater vigilance, stressing that citizens must support security agencies in safeguarding critical facilities.

He further noted that stable electricity would not only boost livelihoods but also contribute to long-term efforts to improve security in the region.
