A spokesperson for the DHQ, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed that about 36 officers are currently facing trial over their alleged involvement in the failed coup attempt.

He said the proceedings, which began last week in Abuja, are being held inside a military facility under strict security arrangements.

According to him, all further sessions of the court martial will continue to be conducted without public or media access, adding that the next sitting will also hold behind closed doors.

The court martial was formally inaugurated on Friday, with the accused officers appearing before a panel of military judges as proceedings commenced.

The case is regarded as one of the most notable military prosecutions in recent years.

In a related development, six civilians are also being prosecuted at the Federal High Court in Abuja over their alleged involvement in the same plot. They have all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Nigeria, which gained independence from Britain in 1960, experienced several military coups in its early post-independence years but has maintained uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999.

Herders’ Group Petitions Mutfwang, DSS, OPEP Over Livestock Attacks In Plateau.

The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has petitioned Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) over alleged repeated attacks on herders and suspected poisoning incidents in several communities, particularly in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a petition dated April 23, 2026, and signed by the state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the association said it was forced to raise the alarm due to increasing threats to the safety and livelihoods of Fulani herders in the affected areas.

Titled “Urgent Complaint on Repeated Killing of Herders and Cattle,” the document, obtained by DAILY POST on Monday, alleged a series of coordinated incidents between April 18, 20, 22, and 23, 2026, across different communities in Barkin Ladi, which it described as a disturbing pattern of targeted attacks on herders and their livestock.

MACBAN alleged that on April 18, about 10 cows were poisoned in Rakung Village, while another cow was killed in the same area on April 20. It further claimed that nine cattle were poisoned in the Lokojora area on April 22, with additional cases recorded along the Nding axis on April 22 and 23.

The group said these incidents have caused significant economic losses for its members and raised broader concerns about livelihoods, food security, and community relations.

Babayo expressed disappointment that despite several reports to security agencies, no arrests had been made in connection with the incidents.

The association urged security operatives to investigate the allegations, prevent further occurrences, and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. It also called on the state government to provide support to affected herders.

While calling for urgent action, MACBAN appealed to its members to remain calm and law-abiding, warning that restraint was necessary to avoid escalating tensions and to support ongoing peace efforts in the state.
