Herders’ Group Petitions Mutfwang, DSS, OPEP Over Livestock Attacks In Plateau.
The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has petitioned Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) over alleged repeated attacks on herders and suspected poisoning incidents in several communities, particularly in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a petition dated April 23, 2026, and signed by the state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the association said it was forced to raise the alarm due to increasing threats to the safety and livelihoods of Fulani herders in the affected areas.
Titled “Urgent Complaint on Repeated Killing of Herders and Cattle,” the document, obtained by DAILY POST on Monday, alleged a series of coordinated incidents between April 18, 20, 22, and 23, 2026, across different communities in Barkin Ladi, which it described as a disturbing pattern of targeted attacks on herders and their livestock.
MACBAN alleged that on April 18, about 10 cows were poisoned in Rakung Village, while another cow was killed in the same area on April 20. It further claimed that nine cattle were poisoned in the Lokojora area on April 22, with additional cases recorded along the Nding axis on April 22 and 23.
The group said these incidents have caused significant economic losses for its members and raised broader concerns about livelihoods, food security, and community relations.
Babayo expressed disappointment that despite several reports to security agencies, no arrests had been made in connection with the incidents.
The association urged security operatives to investigate the allegations, prevent further occurrences, and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. It also called on the state government to provide support to affected herders.
While calling for urgent action, MACBAN appealed to its members to remain calm and law-abiding, warning that restraint was necessary to avoid escalating tensions and to support ongoing peace efforts in the state.
