The incident occurred at the Allianz Arena earlier this month after Bayern scored two late goals in the second leg to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

In the aftermath of the dramatic victory, supporters from the club’s ultras section reportedly climbed over pitch-side barriers in celebration and ran onto the perimeter area, where several photographers were caught in the chaos and trampled.

One photographer sustained a concussion, while another suffered a head injury, and others required medical treatment following the incident.

UEFA confirmed that Bayern Munich will pay a total fine of €89,625. The sanctions include €40,000 for spectator misconduct, €30,000 for an offensive banner targeting UEFA, €14,000 for blocked access routes, and €5,625 for throwing objects.

Although the club faced the possibility of a partial stadium closure for their semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, the ruling stopped short of enforcing a crowd ban.

Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund had earlier expressed optimism that the fixture would still be played in front of a full stadium, saying he expected a “football festival” atmosphere against PSG.

The proceedings, set up by the Defence Headquarters (Defence Headquarters Nigeria), were inaugurated on Friday at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, under tight security.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the hearing was held behind closed doors. Journalists, including accredited defence correspondents who had been officially invited, were denied entry into the venue.

Security operatives also restricted the use of mobile phones, preventing the documentation of the arrival of the 36 accused officers, who were brought in an Army Headquarters Garrison bus at about 8:53 a.m.

The court-martial is expected to handle multiple cases linked to the alleged plot, as the military moves to enforce discipline and uphold constitutional authority within its ranks.

Those facing trial reportedly include senior officers across different ranks, among them Brigadier General MA Sadiq, several lieutenant colonels, majors, captains, and non-commissioned officers spanning the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Although the specific charges were not publicly disclosed, the convening order reportedly stated that each accused officer would be formally served with individual charges.

The Defence Headquarters had earlier confirmed in January that some military personnel were arrested over allegations of a coup plot against the Tinubu administration, alongside accusations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, with plans for them to face military judicial proceedings.

Separately, on April 22, 2026, the Federal Government also arraigned six individuals—including retired military officers and a serving police inspector—before the Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged plan to overthrow the government.

The defendants are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy, attempted treason, terrorism-related offences, failure to disclose security intelligence, terrorism financing, and money laundering, with the prosecution alleging that the plot was conceived in 2025 to undermine the Nigerian state.
