Offa Robbery: No Evidence Links Saraki, Legal Advice Reveals.

Published

on

Two separate legal opinions issued in 2018 by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation have found no evidence linking former Senate President Bukola Saraki to the deadly Offa bank robbery in Kwara State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The legal advice, dated June 22 and August 23, 2018, was signed by then Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed U.E., on behalf of then Attorney-General Abubakar Malami.

The April 5, 2018 attack involved armed robbers who stormed several banks and a police station in Offa, leaving 33 people dead, including a pregnant woman and 12 police officers.

Following the incident, several suspects were arrested, including alleged gang leader Ayoade Akinnibosun, while another suspect, Michael Adikwu, died in custody.

Police later invited Saraki for questioning after claims emerged that the gang operated as political thugs for him and allegedly received support through an aide linked to former Kwara governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

However, Akinnibosun later told journalists that although the group had previously worked for Saraki, the former Senate President had no knowledge of the robbery plan.

In its first legal advice, the Attorney-General’s office said it could not establish any connection between Saraki and the crime, noting that there was no evidence linking him to the suspects.

The office still recommended further investigation to determine any possible awareness or involvement.

A second legal opinion issued in August 2018 maintained the same position, stating there was still no prima facie case against Saraki or Abdulwahab for conspiracy, armed robbery, or culpable homicide.

Despite this, prosecution of the arrested suspects continued, leading to the 2024 conviction and death sentence of five defendants, later upheld on appeal.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has recently filed new charges against Saraki and former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, alleging involvement in arming the convicted robbers—claims Saraki has strongly denied.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Wole Oluyede, has challenged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to a public debate ahead of the June 20, 2026 election, while unveiling policy proposals aimed at addressing what he described as gaps in governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oluyede issued the challenge during a meeting with PDP members from all 177 wards in the state held in Ikere Ekiti on Saturday, saying a debate would give voters a clear comparison of both candidates’ plans.

He highlighted key challenges such as unpaid gratuities, limited access to affordable healthcare, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and weak grassroots economic development.

To address these, he proposed a structured plan to clear pension arrears, an expanded health insurance scheme for vulnerable residents, and stronger support for small and medium-scale businesses through grants, training, and partnerships. He also identified agriculture and agro-processing as major job-creation sectors for youths.

Oluyede said he is ready to be held accountable by the people, stressing that his proposals are practical and measurable.

He also urged party members to remain united following recent internal reconciliation efforts and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.

The debate challenge is expected to add momentum to the early build-up toward the 2026 governorship race in Ekiti State.
