Benue Kidnap Horror: 8 Rescued Victims Identified As UTME Candidates.
Eight of the passengers rescued from last Wednesday’s Benue Links bus abduction have been confirmed as candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, the victims were among those kidnapped while en route to Otukpo to participate in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The passengers were abducted on April 15, 2026, and regained their freedom on Sunday morning after spending about three days in captivity.
Three of the rescued candidates are female.
Following their release, the victims were taken to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi by the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, where they were received by Governor Hyacinth Alia alongside their parents and guardians.
They appeared visibly weak after the ordeal, while officials began documentation ahead of their formal reception.
The attack occurred when armed men intercepted a Benue Links vehicle carrying passengers on Wednesday night and whisked away several travellers, including UTME candidates heading to Otukpo for their exams.
The revelation that some of the victims were exam candidates contradicts earlier statements suggesting that none of those abducted were sitting for the UTME.
