The Nigerian military is reportedly preparing to hold a closed-door hearing for officers being detained over an alleged coup plot.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to multiple sources who spoke to Sahara Reporters, the planned proceedings may prevent the accused officers from selecting their own lawyers and could also bar family members from attending the hearings.

One source said the issue now appears to go beyond delays in the justice process, raising deeper concerns about transparency, fairness, and accountability.

The source alleged that the handling of the case suggests a deliberate attempt to influence the outcome, limit public scrutiny, and control the narrative surrounding the matter.

Another insider also claimed that trust in the process is fading fast.

According to the source, what is being presented no longer reflects justice but rather an effort to maintain control.

The latest development comes amid increasing public concern over the prolonged detention of several military officers accused of plotting to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Although investigations into the alleged coup plot have been ongoing since 2025, the military is yet to begin a public trial, while details of the allegations have remained largely unclear.

Earlier this month, wives of some of the detained officers staged another peaceful protest at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, calling for either the immediate release of their husbands or a fair and open trial.

According to him, the specific day off will be scheduled by Accounting Officers in ministries and agencies to avoid disruption of government operations.

However, he noted that essential workers such as medical personnel, security operatives, judicial officers, and teachers will be exempted from the weekly day-off arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties.
