Reports said the image circulating on social media showed the Benue governor in a posture suggesting worship before the Sultan.

Reacting through a statement issued by his media team, the Sultan described the image as a fabricated attempt to stir religious and ethnic tensions.

In the statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka and titled Re: False and misleading claims circulating on social media, the media team said the post was designed to introduce a divisive narrative into the security challenges facing Benue State.

The statement stressed that the image was fake, likely AI-generated, and deliberately created to mislead the public.

It also condemned attempts to drag the Sultan into issues unrelated to his office or person, especially through false allegations of religious bias.

According to the Sultan’s media team, such misinformation poses a serious threat to national unity and peaceful coexistence.

The statement noted that the Sultan, who also serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, Co-Chairman of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council, and Co-President of Religions for Peace, has consistently championed peace, interfaith harmony, and national unity for nearly two decades.

It warned that repeated efforts by certain individuals to spread false narratives could worsen existing tensions and destabilise fragile security situations in parts of the country.

The media team also clarified that the Sultan was never involved in the scene portrayed in the image, adding that Islamic teachings reserve prostration strictly for Almighty Allah, making the claim not only false but also inconsistent with the Sultan’s faith and principles.

The statement called on the Federal Government and security agencies to take firm action against those spreading disinformation and inciting division.

It also urged religious and community leaders to promote responsible communication and help preserve Nigeria’s peace and stability.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.
