In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency thanked taxpayers for their compliance and commitment to meeting their tax obligations.

The statement, signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS, said the extension was necessitated by a surge in traffic on the eTax platform as taxpayers rushed to meet the earlier deadline.

According to the agency, the increased usage made it necessary to provide additional time to ensure smooth and successful filing for all users.

It noted that following the earlier extension to April 14, 2026, the platform experienced heavy traffic as more taxpayers attempted to complete their submissions.

LIRS said the new deadline of April 21 is aimed at giving taxpayers sufficient opportunity to comply with their statutory obligations without disruption.

The agency described the extension as final and urged residents to take advantage of it to file their returns promptly.

It reminded taxpayers that filing annual income tax returns is a legal requirement for all eligible individuals.

Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all filings must be done electronically through the official eTax platform.

Taxpayers were advised to complete their submissions via https://etax.lirs.net, while enquiries can be directed to any LIRS office or official communication channels.
